When you visit the Mets roster page, Eduardo Escobar is identified by the number 10, which he wore for the team in 2022. BUT, as first scooped by Mets by the Numbers on December 26, we see that Escobar's MLB.com profile page lists him as wearing #5.
One would be a fool to think this is a preview of 2023, and not some sort of clumsy error, as #5 has all but assuredly been placed on eternal mothballs for the Mets. As Escobar previously wore 5 for the Brewers, Diamondbacks, and Twins, it's quite possible his profile page never had his correct Mets number, and it took until December 26 for an eagle-eyed MbtN staffer to pick it up.
The real surprise here is that the roster page and the profile page reference two separate uniform number columns in the MLB player database. One would think that the failure is at the league office and not with the team, although perhaps team personnel are tasked with making updates to MLB's data.
Anyhow, your assignment is to figure out who needs to be poked to get this page updated. Ten cranebucks to whoever buzzes the right desk. What kind of 5-and-10 operation are they running?
