And then on or around 12/31/23 we'll revisit to make fun of the wrong ones and award the person with the best insight ... absolutely nothing. I'll open with Vladimir Putin, whether by natural causes or otherwise, doesn't live to the end of the year.

Urkaine will drive Russian troops from its east and south and will be working on Crimea by the end of the year. Republicans will try to cut off money for them, because they're Republicans. Kevin McCarthy will cut enough deals to become Speaker, but he will have minimal control over his caucus, and not a lot of damage will be done. The debt ceiling issue will get resolved at the last minute after a lot of threats and bluster, as it always does. The Senate will confirm judges as fast as Biden can nominate them (which isn't fast enough). The Supreme Court will issue a ruling preventing state courts from overruling legislatures in election cases. The Mets will not win the World Series in 2023, and Steve Cohen will make an absolutely insane offer to Shohei Ohtani next winter. Oh, and Donald Trump will still be an asshole.

Yeah, I don't think Trussia is gonna happen. Costa Rica? Slovenia? Maldives? Philippines? That could certainly come to transpire. He'd prefer Turks and Caicos or the Caymans, but his lawyers will discourage any British territories. Hey, maybe there's a nice spot he could stay in Nambia.

Mets City Connect uniforms feature a Big Apple theme. They're not great - but not as bad as we feared. Biden announces in early fall that he won't seek a second term, saying he needs to pass the torch to the next generation. Before doing that, he awards Nancy Pelosi the Medal of Freedom -- possibly as soon as the State of the Union. Mets announce the retirement of David Wright's No. 5, then have another surprise Old Timer's Day reveal of a retired No. 8. Baseball writers elect no one to the Hall of Fame this month. Carlos Beltran, however, is named to the Mets Hall of Fame along with David Wright and Al Leiter. Jacob deGrom gets off to a great start with the Rangers. No one notices. MLB announces a committee to explore expansion to Montreal, Charlotte, Portland and Las Vegas. The Athletics and Rays immediately threaten to relocate to one of them. Does the balanced schedule go into effect this year? If so, I think there will be three teams in the NL East with 100 wins or more.

Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, and Amy Klobuchar will announce their candidacies.
