Super Bowl Quickie Quiz

This one's a quickie. So quick, youse don't even need to post your answers or guesses. In fact, I prefer youse don't post your guesses. This way, everybody gets to play without the answer being posted. Just take some time to ponder the answer, and then go look it up. Discuss later. Here's the question: How many lifetime complete games did nine year Met and two-time Cy Young award winner Jacob deGrom pitch in his entire career, to date?

I'd say given his injury history, and the current nature of pitch count monitoring, that the number is a bit lower than expected, but not as much lower as maybe I would have thought. For the record, he's had 209 career appearances in the majors, all starts.

It's four. Four. The answer is four lifetime complete games for Jacob deGrom. In nine seasons and two Cy Young awards. That's about one calendar month's work for Tom Seaver. My, how the game has changed.

705 pitchers have started more games than jacob degrom's 209. Forty-three of these pitchers have as many or fewer complete games as jake. four pitchers with more games started than jake have only one complete game. they are erik bedard, kevin gausman, chris young, and robbie ray. ten such pitchers have two complete games. they include jose quintana, stephen strasburg and yu darvish. scott kazmir is one of a dozen pitchers with three complete games. kip wells is another. among four-shutouters are gio gonzalez, brad penny, mike pelfrey, and bruce chen. but only one pitcher with more games started than jake has zero complete games. who is he? oh, i'll give the answer in a bit. this quiz is so rotten it stinks. you're sure to actively hate me for it. don't worry. if it's too hard, i'll put it on a tee and give out hints.

Zach Wheeler is close - he's at 195 games started and also has just four complete games. One in 2014 as a Met and the other 3 all in 2021.
