Memories of Dilbert

Looks like Dilbert creator Scott Adams shot himself in the foot recently.

‘Dilbert' distributor drops creator Scott Adams over his racist remarks

Re: Memories of Dilbert

Like many Americans, I thought Scott Adams had worked at the same company I did.

He poked fun at the insanity, stupidity and office politics we saw on a daily basis.

Too bad.

What he put In his strip wasn't the problem. That example above pokes fun at diversity and identity politics and there's nothing wrong with that.

It's what he had to say outside of the strip (something that seems to have gone public only recently) that's deservedly landed him in hot water.

I gave DILBERT a go when it was fairly new but didn't hang with it. I get the satire of cubicle life and all but never funny enough IMO and too simply (read: poorly) drawn.

You absolutely can't say shit like that and not expect backlash, and proper order to , wanker.

Re: Memories of Dilbert

He's been kind of repulsive for years. It's just that his modest podcast profile had little notability compared to his massive comic strip profile. As the newer medium has grown, and his remarks have found a bigger audience, he's also become more emboldened by his lack of consequences to date, and become more vile. Something was gonna give sooner or later.

It's a big pill for Andrews McMeel to swallow, as Dilbert was pretty easily the heaviest hitter on their comic strip roster.

From a friend, talking about Adams:
as is the case with other artists, writers, musicians, and those who create social commentary who capture the zeitgeist, they're not always on the right side of history or nice people.

They also sold a metric crap-ton of Dilbert calendars every year.

Re: Memories of Dilbert

My brother worked for them for a time, trying to drum up merchandising tie-in business for their properties. The biggest account he was given was Tank McNamara. He jumped through hoops trying to convince a garment manufacturer they could sell more undershorts with Tank McNamara's face embroidered on them, all the while wanting to put his head through a wall, knowing that it was the dumbest fashion idea ever.

He quit after — and this is his account, so take it with a grain of salt — trying and failing to convince his higher-ups to buy the merchandising rights to a new Aaron Spelling show in development called Beverly Hills 90210.

What a strange turn of events that Scott Adams would turn out to be more vile than Aaron Spelling.

Maybe the above cartoon illustrates (pun partially intended) my issues with Dilbert: I have no idea what 'this' he's referring to.

I believe 'this' is the nazi-sign cubicle.

One year for Halloween I wore a dog poop wig, got a lot of laughs.

Re: Memories of Dilbert

i've been a fan of dilbert for years, although it seemed that once the trump years hit, he was more willing and more enabled to let some of that leak into his comics. it was starting to become less about what stupid shit exists in corporate and technology culture, and morphed into even more of a "jokes for the oppressed male white engineer" strip.

It's nice that he's still allowed to use the drive-through window at his bank.

This is true of me as well. I deliberately destroyed my massively successful career in popular media, but I've never been more popular.

Oh, and black people love me.
