Two lefties battle it out as David Peterson goes up against Jesús Luzardo. Fun Fakt #1: The southpaw should probably mean the first start for Tomás Nido, as well as Tommy Pham and/or Tim Locastro. Buck liked to deploy Luis Guillorme against lefties last season despite the same-side-matchup thing, but I don't see him getting the nod. Look for him to come off the bench when the Marlins go to their pen. Fun Fakt #2: The Mets win on Opening Day came without a homerun. Marlins Park is a tough ballpark for power, but I don't think they even made a serious bid. Don't think for a minute that several Mets don't hit the pillow tonight wanting to cross that off tomorrow. Or maybe not. But I can delude myself that sounds cool to pretend I know what they're thinking. I actually think Alonso can get too hungry against lefty starters. Fun Fakt #3: This is an actual fact, and not opinion-laced garbage like the two items I have typed above, but Jesús Luzardo started twice against the Mets last season, going 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA (seven runs in 9 1/3 innings) against them. Fun Fakt #4: Skip Schumaker is the Cardinaliest name of any Cardinal that has ever Cardinaled. I'm willing to hear arguments for Jeff Suppan and Chris Duncan, but in the end, it's Skip Schumaker, and I tend to think of such folks as super-Cardinals, whose powers desert them outside of St. Louis. This also reads like an opinion (and a stupid one, to be sure), but it's a fakt that this is my opinion. Fun Fakt #5: This is Met PA Announcer Colin Cosell celebrating the team's Opening Day win with his infant daughter Eloise, whose sunny young life has yet to be dimmed by a Mets loss. Has to be a grandson-- there's a resemblance. As to Cardinalia, there's nobody more redbirdian than Dave Duncan, except maybe Jose Oquendo.

Yeah, the Mets co-PA announcer the last few years is Cosell's grandson — Howard having been the Mets original pre-game host. And now Humble Howard's great-granddaughter joins the show.

The Mets have been over .500 in season for 163 consecutive games. The franchise record is 323, from April 6, 2006 (2-1) to March 31, 2008 (1-0), encompassing the entirety of 2007. Keep up a winning record all of 2023 (a tall task, especially this time of year) and we've got a new mark.



So streak, indeed!



Most consecutive games at .500 or better in season is 337, from 77-77 on September 24, 2005 to 2-2 on April 5, 2008, with no losing record posted at any juncture of 2006 or 2007. Willie Randolph did say he'd always been a winner.

Nah. Plenty of good lineup options abound along with plenty of good rising secondary options in Scuse. Marlins got the breaks and made a lot of terrific plays. Mets certainly made a few also. Mostly good baseball was played. They have a .590 pythagorean winning percentage! On a pace for 96 wins!
