I didn't sleep last night. Changing seasons really mess with my sleep patterns. But among the thoughts to come to me was the notion that the Mets' starting outfield for this game might be McNeil-Pham-Escobar.

Uncle Floyd is a thread all his own. I used to turn the antenna just right to get channel 68. It'll be weird rooting against Wilmer, JD Davis and Michael Conforto. On the other hand, it'll be really easy to root against Darin Ruf. Another 'DVR Mets Fast Forward' game.

I think Nimmo and McNeil have switched personalities. Suddenly the former is knocking everything around the plate around the ballpark, and the latter has become minutely selective.

Not to lose sight here on a west coast trip, we are going to the bottom of the 8th in a 13 run game after only 2 hours and 15 minutes. the pitch clock may create some bad headlines and we all hope it doesnt decide a big game, but its been pretty good most of the time!

Four-twenty is a slang term for marijuana consumption. It's origin and derivation aren't 100% clear, but it is widely believed to be a reference to meeting at 4:20 PM (presumably after school) to get high. The term appears to have originated in California in the seventies, but didn't seem to get national traction until decades later. Things being what they are, and the squarest of the square wanting to be part of a winking, not-so-inside joke, it has led to 4/20 (the date of tonight's game) being sort of considered a day to celebrate pot smoking. And I guess making opaque references to it makes the guys on the air feel less square. SNY is always thinking about the kids.

I had to google it yesterday when reading it on facebook a few times. 4:20 was probably around the time detention was let out. I wouldn't know, as a model student I never served detention.
