Bumgarner DFA’d

The D'Backs have DFA'd Madison Bumgarner, who never quite got over the guilt he felt ending our 2016 postseason.

he's got a pulse, and he's cheap (since the D'Backs are stuck with his salary)...what harm could it do to give him a look while we are down a few arms in the rotation? If nothing else, he could pinch hit for Luis G or Escobar...

Two-time Silver Slugger with 19 career homers.

The harm would be if he displaces someone more capable, if only for a few rotation turns.

Sign him and soon they'd be swapping out the Gatorade for Geritol.

He's only 33, he'd be a baby sitting alongside Justin/Max.

Do they still make and sell Geritol? I remember as a kid it was heavily

advertised but really have no idea what the hell it does or did.

I dunno. It was one of the things I remembered from my past, too. I think they called them "tonics".

Like Vitameatavegamin, 'it's so tasty too!'.

Re: Bumgarner DFA’d

He's pitched far too poorly so far this season to be an immediate answer. But if my pitching coach thinks he's a tweak in his mechanics away from getting his groove back, I'm interested.

Lucchesi pitched too well in his last AAA start to not get the call.

I didn't realize Bumgarner is only 33. Seems like he's been around forever. But he also hasn't had a decent season since 2016.

On Tony Korneiser's podcast today, Tom Verducci only gave Bumgarner a 3 out of 10 chance of being successful again.

I wonder about him as a reliever.

Re: Bumgarner DFA’d

I actually watched a few innings of what turned out to be his final ARZ game on Wednesday afternoon and found myself wondering if a release was possibly in the mix cuz

he looked like toast; lots of stuff out of the strike zone and everything in the zone was getting hit. I just had no idea how quickly my brief thought would come to pass.

It's perplexing how fast he fell particularly since, as mentioned, he's still just 33 y/o and still looks like he could lift up one side of the stadium in case someone needed

a few minutes to look for some spare change underneath. Relieving is a thought but he's also been so blah for so long now that you really have to assume that this is

his new normal and the old version isn't coming back. I wonder also if he'd even want to pitch out of the pen as he's used to being a main guy and isn't exactly Mr.

sort and cuddly.

On one hand, I'd gamble a minor league deal on 30%. But how likely is he to be successful this season?

Re: Bumgarner DFA’d

I'm guessing Tom Verducci's opinion isn't necessarily the Mets position.

Even if he's dead right on the percentage, "successful" has a lot of grey area.
