The Mets get an extra player for the doubleheader which will bring them to the normal number of 26 rather than 27 because MLB feels that the team is complicit when a pitcher is suspended after Phil Cuzzi has determined that there is too much rosin (these will be the last two games of Max's 10-game suspension). With Megill and Butto the likely starters perhaps Peterson will return (if he ever left) to give the Mets a left-handed reliever.

I think it's pretty unlikely they use Peterson as a reliever. Obviously his struggles are pretty frustrating but there's a lot more potential there as a starter, as evidenced by his contributions last year. Better to have him sort it out in AAA since they'll need him again this year.

Peterson may have a future as a reliever in the near-term, if only because the rotation slots may otherwise fill up, while the lefthanded reliever chair is wide open.

Just like to say hello to everyone as a new member and this seemed like a good place to do it. In regards to the Peterson discussion for relief on Monday. I've recently come back to baseball and noticed the Mets have a slightly unbalanced roster starting rotation and relief for lefty/righty match ups. Does Citi field benefit righties more or is it pretty even?

CitiField doesn't particularly favor right-handers or lefties.

The R/L imbalance is more just a result of who's on the roster and/or available (not injured).

The team would certainly like more LHPs but so would just about all of them.

I get it but Curtiss was warming up so what changed Buck's mind? Curtiss wasn't any better so it didn't matter.

The turning point so far was on the Lindor stolen base. McNeil got called on a dubious swinging strike for strike two by the home-plate ump, without asking for help from third base. McNeil was controlling the at-bat to that point. Strider was trying to get him to chase and he wasn't biting. But then he went into defensive-swing mode and ended up with that popout.

Almost recovered from the Reyes size hole, almost. If they keep the bats hot for game 2 and get some more reliable pitching in the first half of the game it's certainly winnable with that performance. Enjoy the second game. Hard to win when you have a Triple-A pitching staff, already, and two 'starting' catchers that can't even hit .200. Or barely .100, in Nido's case. The Mets have Michael Perez, Nick Meyer and Hayden Senger in the minors. All of them are awful, but wouldn't be any worse than Nido right now. Time to ditch Tomas for young minor league pitching depth (always needed desperately) and just use one of them.
