IGT — TBR@NYM, 5/17

Edgy MD
May 16 2023 09:50 PM

The Mets had been accumulating 10 or more hits per night, but due to a lack of walks and an utter foreswearing of homeruns, they weren't scoring as much as they might.

So this evening, the team found its homerun stick, but didn't get the base hits, and still came up short.

In game two, it all comes together — the hits, the power, the walks, the speed — that makes and offense go. Japanese righthander Kodai Senga takes on Flemish lefthander Josh Fleming, who may be an actual starter or he may be an opener. He has been used both ways.

In a special promotion, the Mets will provide the first 41,000 fans through the gates with a seat, with the possibility of seeing a competitive baseball game from that seat.

Restrictions will apply. Please see your ticket for details.

Re: IGT — TBR@NYM, 5/17

Look at the redemption of Eduardo Escobar, back in good graces and hitting at the top of the lineup as the Mets try to utterly stack their lineup with righthanded bats.

Just a bit over the top maybe for a guy with a career 832 OPS vs LHP?

So unless he also ran over your dog earlier this week, relax.

I was wondering where my dog went. You mean he did that, too?

No, IMO he just doesn't have enough power for that slot in the Batting Order. If they're going to bring up Vientos, why not him there?

(Of course, he'll probably hit a homer his first time up)

No, IMO he just doesn't have enough power for that slot in the Batting Order.

Mid-20s HRs and mid-20s 2Bs per 500 ABs vs LHP for his career.

If they're going to bring up Vientos, why not him there?

I dunno. Maybe cuz immediately throwing rookies into the middle of the lineup has such a storied history of success.

Or maybe cuz his brief ML track record involves a .167 BA and 2 XBHs?

Again, relax. Vientos has been in the majors for 20 minutes and MUCH better prospects than he have failed. So just maybe we should

let him show he deserves a middle of the order batting spot before threatening to barf when he's not handed one right away.

This whole argument smacks more of picking a designated whipping boy and showing how much one is going to out-hate everyone on

him. After all, it's been at least two days before we had a similar argument with a possible maybe potential call-up of Gary Sanchez.

You can't help but immediately speculate on the importance of such a game, but when the player is asked immediately afterwards something along the line of "How foundational is this win going forward?" as an athlete, I'd like to say, "Ask me that tomorrow; let's all enjoy this one just for itself."

Yahoo sports has the three dingers at:

Vientos 436'

Alvarez 442'

Alonso 432'

But to paraphrase an old adage, they all look like a homer in the box score.

Home run distance really should be where the ball would have landed if it had completed its arc without hitting a wall or the seats. They may not have been able to do such calculations in Mickey Mantle's time, but I'm sure they can do it now.
