Saturday night turns into Sunday afternoon as the Guardians and Mets make a second attempt at Game Two of their interleague series. Rookie Tanner Bibee takes the hill for the visitors while the homeboys counter with T.B. Dee. Say what you will about being undecided about a pitcher on a weekend afternoon, but as it's the 18th anniversary of Dae-Sung Koo's unlikely trip around the bases, I'm going to go ahead and embrace the mystery. The Mets really needed to get more out of that inning. Vogelbach's walk wasn't the problem. The Mets were fortunately able to take advantage of Straw's arm twice in the inning to get in the one run.

The Mets have simply worn out their bullpen due to the starters not giving them quality innings often enough. The offense needs to step up again.

Odd call to pull Scherzer at 86 pitches on doubleheader day. Also odd to go Raley for only 9 pitches. Very aggressive baserunning all around. Not just on Sanchez getting thrown out at the plate, and McNeil out (after replay) stretching for a double, but also Pete going first to third on a single to short center. I do like the aggressiveness, but combined with Marte getting picked off first, 3 outs on the basepaths is a lot.

Mets fell short of getting thrown out for a cycle [1-3, 9-3-2, 9-6] and, as with most missed hitting cycles, this one too failed at 3B And even without those miscues, NYM bats got the bare minimum runs out of the offense they generated. Fortunately, it was justbarely enough.
