Gotta think Vogelboom's days are numbered.

Watch he'll go 3-4 with two HR and post, 'fuck you, skinny.'

I am happy Chicago is in the eastern time zone and I can zone out for the night not much after 10pm

Chicago is in the Central Zone, along with Gary and Indiana's other Chicago-area satellite cities .

A pitching performance that at least doesn't suck would be nice to see tonight.

Especially since, once again, the bats turn a situation loaded with potential runs into ceding an out in order to score a lone run.

The strangest time zone line has got to be that strip in lower part of Michigan's upper peninsula which defiantly mocks the rest of their state by casting their lot with the Centralites.

Maybe our Michigander knows the story behind that but I sure can't figure out the logic and there can't be many people living there anyway.

Not quite what that/those county(ies) in western Kansas are thinking either.

Well, since you asked, I do know about this.

Michigan is in kind of an odd spot on the far end of Eastern time zone.

In the late 1800s, the entire state was on Central time. Detroit, which is on the far south eastern side of the state, switched to Eastern time in 1915 and most of the rest of the state followed in 1931. The entire Upper Peninsula went into the Central time in the late 1960s, but with no Daylight Savings time. That changed in 1973, when he majority of the peninsula switched to Eastern Time, except for those four counties of Gogebic, Iron, Dickinson, and Menominee.

Those counties are kind of oriented toward Wisconsin -- more Packers and Brewers fans than Lions or Tigers fans -- and are close to Green Bay. There are not a ton of people there, but some very beautiful places.

The northern part of the UP is anchored by Marquette, which is a really cool city with a lot of history and a large university. A lot of shipping for the iron industry. It just makes sense that those areas would want to be in the same time zone.

I lived in Michigan for 23 years before spending any real time in the UP. We'd go to Mackinac Island -- a touristy place between the two peninsulas -- and cross the bridge to say we were in the UP then head back down over the bridge.

But when I started working for the state, we'd head up there for events and I got to see most of it. There are some spectacular parts.

We would spend a week up there in August and use Marquette as a the home base, and plan events all over. The time zone created some havoc with our itineraries because we'd be crossing back and forth.

Because we are on the far end of the Eastern zone, it gets dark pretty late. Independence Day fireworks don't start until 10:15 or 10:30.

Eighty pitches through five for Carrasco.

Not that impressively low, but it feels like a long time since I saw a total like that. I'm not sure how long a leash Buck has him on.

An 11 pitch inning for Barnhart
