Mets receive BJ's 6/2 IGT

Chris Bassitt (5-4, 3.80) goes against Verlander (2-2, 4.80) tonight as the Blue Jays come to town. They are said to have a fearsome offense but aren't doing any better than the Mets this year. In fact both clubs are 30-27.

What's happening with him this season? He's having a decent season but it's all singles. This year, he's a light hitting singles hitter with no kind of power and with a decent command of the strike zone. He's kinda killing the Mets from the #3 hole.

As I recall it McNeil was red hot until getting moved up to No. 3. That was about Marte turning into a singles hitter. I was thinking Baty is our No. 3 guy, at least will be.

Agree there. He's definitely not putting up batting third numbers. He's not even hitting doubles this year. But my guess is that Buck doesn't want McNeil following Nimmo because they're both lefties.

McNeil and Nimmo, who used to be this wonderful contrast with each other, are now somehow suddenly transforming into the same hitter, each adopting the other's flaws.

The difference between the front of the plate and the "mid-point", where Gary says Robo-ump is programmed to call strikes, is 4 inches deep. Ronnie is exaggerating the sideways movement of a pitch over that span.

I don't know if that is true (that the robot ump is essentially a 2 dimensional rather than 3 dimensional strikezone) but even if it were true, a 2 dimensional but consistent zone would still be an improvement over what we have now.

Darren Daulton just doesn't seem like a guy who was such a great teammate that two different fellow players would name their kids after him. On the other hand, in a clubhouse with Len Dykstra and Mitch Williams and Curt Schilling, maybe he seemed like a real prince by comparison.

A point of order with regard to this vote: In transferring the points I recorded into my voting ballot form, I saw that I had planned to award Francisco Álvarez with 1.03 points. While I'm certain part of that was for his defensive work, I noted that [url]the Schaefer ballot form recorded him as having gone oh-for-three. I wondered why I had recorded as much of a reward as 1.03 points for a guy who took a collar, but then I cross checked MLB's site, and they have him going one-for-three.
