Yeah, was thinking very much the same. It's a good day for a one-off (for now) visit to the cleanup spot for Álvarez.

I also had half a mind to flirt with Vogelbach in the three spot.

Anybody think Pete should get a day?

Probably tough to consider after dropping the first two games.

Vogelbach to 1b and Pham in somewhere

Re: IGT 06/04 - TOR at NYM - Series Salvage Revisited

Pete certainly should get a day, but probably best not to sit him and Lindor at the same time. That reads less like a day of rest and more like a manager with a red ass.

Five games with four solo homers and no other scoring, all losses. This was the fifth. Wrote up the first four in 2019,last time it happened.

Fortunately, they've got a 3-game series in Atlanta to perk them up.

Or...........not.

This is a team that's just out of synch. It seems every time they start to get it going, they stall out. Pitchers have good games followed by bad games. Hitters are going into funks. The good people in the bullpen are being overused and the rest of them just suck. So after 60 games, they're just spinning their wheels.

We're actually traveling to Pittsburgh to see them next Saturday. I'm kinda dreading it a bit.

The Diaz injury really hurts. Not only was Diaz historically great last year, but he was also one of the very best relievers in baseball the year before. Diaz's presence would have eliminated the worst reliever from the rotation. That's a huge gap in value - swapping Diaz for whoever is the least effective Mets reliever.

Marte's off. Lindor's under .220 and not doing enough offensively to compensate for that and especially, taking at-bats from the very top of the lineup. And like I said, McNeil this year is a singles hitter with virtually no power. His isolated power is practically non-existent. His 2023 is a repeat of his disappointing 2021 season, except that his BA is somewhat better this year. If you looked at his 2021 and 2023 season stats, you'd never imagine that he could sandwich a batting title in between.

Pete has only 31 hits this year that aren't HRs and he's K'd 50 times.

The BP was supposed to go 5 deep but the Diaz injury moved everyone in the BP up one slot and allowed for a 3d interchangeable reliever instead of 2 and with the failure of the SPs to go past 5 or 6 on most nights you needed a deep BP. Billy did nothing for the 'pen after Diaz got hurt and has only since picked up other team's discards (such as Leone) while his brilliant Rule V pick was a bust.
