Cristian Javier: RH, 26 y/o, 4th ML season, 7-1; 2.90 ERA; 1.04 WHIP. Has given up 1, 1, 1, 4, and 0 runs in his last five starts though just 5 or 6 innings/90-100 pitches in each Be a nice game to win. I feel like we haven't won a series since maybe April, and the stat Gary touted last night about how the Mets own MLB's 3rd worst record (only the '62-challenging A's & Royals are worse) since their 14-7 start, was ... sobering.

José Abreu getting the day-game-after-a-night-game treatment. I'm happy with Tommy Pham's productivity, but I'm not particularly down with him being an every-day-in-the-middle-of-the-lineup presence.

I find that players that get hit in the hand stay in the game to run the bases, but get pulled an inning or two later when the hand starts to swell.

As soon as Marte got on my only thought was not IF they'd hit into a DP but which player would do it. I was only wrong in how it would happen. I can't claim to have seen that one coming. 3 BBs and an HBP in a five batter span and no runs. It almost defies the laws of physics.

Marte's first two swings, and maybe his third, were out of the strike zone. But he hung in there. The one he hit was way down at his lower shins, too.

Indeed it would have. When Neris was in the NL East, it was a gift to the Mets when the Phillies would put him on the mound. But that was then, and nothing about this game makes sense.

Starting with the Toronto series on June 2nd, the Mets have lost games by: 3, 1, 2, 2, 2, 3 (but in 10 innings), 7 (1st game of Pitt series), 1, 1, 2, 1, 2, and 2 runs They mixed just four wins among those games by 4, 1 (10), 5, and 10 runs, so they've gone 4 - 13 with a -2 run differential. And except for the blowout to the Pirates they've played justbadenough to lose each time and had tying or winning runners and hitters up in the 9th in most of them but failed every time.

Many of those games, they could have tied or gone ahead if just one specific at-bat turned out different. In this game, there were nine or 10 at-bats that failed them. I'm sure some team in history has more deserved to lose a game and still managed to win, but apart from leftfielder Corey Julks (among others), this was a terrible effort by The Astros. And somehow, a demonstrably worse effort by the Mets. Also, it was a game that really showcased some of the downside of the nu ruelz.
