Played in 142 NFL regular season games, all

with The Jets starting 129, recording 1,021

tackles, nine sacks, five interceptions, 31

pass deflections, ten forced fumbles, and

eight fumble recoveries.
Two-time Pro-Bowler (1968–1969). Two-time

First-Team All-Pro (1968–1969). Sixth in

voting for 1968 UPI AFL player of the year.

Champion in Super Bowl III, in which he

made two solo tackles. AFL sacks leader

(1968). All-time All-AFL Team. New York

Jets Ring of Honor. While sacks weren't

officially counted until 1982, retroactive

scoring has alternately credited him with

64.5 and 65 sacks, leaving him fourth on

the team's all-time list.
Among his many personal accomplishments,

including a charitable foundation and a BS

in sociology, Jones also holds a diploma in

herbal medicine from the Institute of

Natural Healing
On the first play of the 1968 AFL All-Star

Game, San Diego Chargers left tackle

Ron Mix came out of the huddle after it

broke and approached Philbin to shake

his hand and thank him for having won

Super Bowl III, giving the AFL the

respect to stand as equals with the NFL.
