Mets v Yanx IGT, 7/26/23

Not being used to a) starting IGTs or b) starting more than one in a row I almost forgot that today's was on me. Last game of the series vs these fuckers. Would be real nice to get both a 3-1 season series win while also knocking them down one more peg into last place. Two pitchers who signed decent sized FA contracts in the off-season only to then sit out the first 100 or so games are tonight's starters: Jose Quintana & Carlos Rondon

The pessimist in me is saying that Rondon will finally find his stuff and Quintana doesn't have any stuff to find. The optimist in me says Vientos and Alvarez are ready to show what a real power hitter can do in that bandbox. LGM Later

Ironically, McNeil might have gotten the runner had he let that ball drop in, played it on a hop, and fired home for the force.

Vientos had a quartet of choices to go with that ball and chose the worst of the four. If a Yanqui fielder slipped on the Shea turf the way McNeal did just there Steinbrenner would be filing protests with the league office.

Mets waited out Rodon well in the early innings, but have been hacking liberally the last few. Good to see the bullpen taking over. Let's strike fast.

Strange night for Quintana. The defense bailed him out when he got hit hard, but failed him when he got the ball he needed. McNeil saved about five runs with his glove. It didn't help his hitting that Eddings had a three-foot strike zone, but he's having such a time figuring out what to do with that slider inside. Every time he seems close, they pitch him away to set him up, reset him, and then ride him in all over again. Anyhow, time to make Washington pay.
