"Yeah, extremely frustrating for sure. I mean, I don't know where this would rank. But, I mean, it's frustrating and a bit disappointing to come up short like that. I mean there's a lot of things that we could for sure improve on. I mean, we didn't hit well. We had some opportunities, especially there late in the game. That's a tough one. We had guys on base late in the game in the seventh and eighth inning, yeah, nothing came of it. We just had Brandon's [Nimmo] homer and one run isn't going to get it done. I mean, [Kodai] Senga pitched incredible, thought we played great defense as a whole. Just couldn't close this one out unfortunately."

I mean his high throw wasn't meaningless,and I mean that with the greatest respect to Pete in a very meaningful way, this season was meant to be great ,but the team is meandering along at a not meaningful way

This happens to lots of people who aren't accustomed to or adept at speaking publicly. It's a vocal hitch. I used to do IT trainings and then post my own recordings and never realized how many times per hour I used the interjection "um," but hearing it back allowed me to work on being more attentive to my own diction. Seems like a peculiar thing to razz him about. I'd be giving him the business about his batting average, personally.

Basketball player Adrian (Odie) Smith used to end every sentence with ""You know". And that's EVERY sentence. It made listening to him in a post game interview torture. People who are going to do a lot of public speaking should join a group like Toastmasters (If that's still around). When you give your first speeches, they assign "um" and "er" counters. They remind you after every speech how many times you do it in order to help you stop saying them. Later

Toastmasters is totally still around. I could be wrong, but I would guess it's probably bigger than ever.

Jerry Manuel used to answer any question that he didn't have a pre-packaged answer for with, "That's a very good question". It was a stalling technique for him to formulate a reply. He'd do it multiple times in every post-game press conference.
