Memories of Tommy Pham

For a while seemed to hit mostly in Met losses, until it became apparent most games were Met losses.

Made himself tradeable in the best connotation of the word.

About the only Met who overperformed this year.

Hit the shit out of everything. Hard line drives out the wing-wing.

Replaced Marcus Stroman as the intense guy on the team, but managed not to be a dick about it.

Either that, or he's kept any and all beefing with Joc Pederson on the down-low.

Re: Memories of Tommy Pham

I remember having him on my fantasy team to start the season, then ditching him because he was underperforming, then regretting ditching him when he finally started to heat up. He was a solid Met, glad to have had him, but not weeping over his departure.

Kind of passed Tim Locastro, Darin Ruf, Mark Canha, and even Starling Marte (sorta) on the corner outfield depth chart in a single season.

He might have never really been behind Locastro, but it looks better to pretend he was, so I'm calling it.

New here, thanks Edgy MD.

I've written a parody song for each of the deadline-traded Mets. Here's my Tommy Pham entry.

Who can take a fastball

Mash it to left field

Steal a couple bases and he'll make a highlight reel?

It's Tommy Pham

Oh, the Tommy Pham can

The Tommy Pham can and he makes the crowd show love

He shows his play is good

Who should be playing elsewhere?

Cause he doesn't need to be

On this farkakte team a playoff game will never see

It's Tommy Pham

Oh, the Tommy Pham can

The Tommy Pham can and he makes the crowd show love

But this team doesn't play good

The hitters don't rake, baserunning mistakes

Trade deadline is so auspicious

Talk about your playoff wishes

Hot stove will cook those dishes

So now he's gone to Phoenix

'Cause that's not Flushing Queens

It's nothing really personal

And he knows what that means

It's Tommy Pham

Oh, the Tommy Pham can

The Tommy Pham will make the Diamondbacks win

Cause these Mets don't play good

That's a pretty accurate impression.

Re: Memories of Tommy Pham

The funny thing is that I thought the expanded playoffs would mean less deadline action. The broader post-season field increases demand, because more teams would be within sniffing range of the post season. But it also decreases supply, because fewer teams would be outside sniffing range of the post season.

But I guess for that team on the bubble, with the choice to go either way, the prices went up. And that team could have been the Guardians or the Padres, but that team, it turns out, was the Mets.

Looked at generally, was the amount of activity meaningfully different from a typical season?

Re: Memories of Tommy Pham

Has anyone else ever used farkakte in a song parody here before?

For any reason?

And it was the perfect word.

Kudos!

Good to have you, farkakte and all.

I thought Pham was a nice signing. I expected he would provide depth in the outfield. Little did I expect him to surpassMarte and Canha and become our best corner outfielder. He definitely was better than I expected.

Tommy Pham gets into it with some box-seaters at Petco Park. Story here.

It's maybe surprising that he was able to behave himself in Queens, I feel like he had this same reputation from his time in Philly (though immersion in a sea of Philadelphia drunk louts may have contributed to that also).

I won't watch that video, of course, because Elon Musk can eat shit.

You're not missing that much.

Tommy may fly off the handle but it's not evident from that video. The worst that says about him is that he has something of a chip on his shoulder. He more or less keeps his head while confronting fans, at least one of whom was out of line.
