A classic matchup of an offensive tackle locking horns with a defensive end. Also, number 66 against number 99.

I think Mark would have beaten Randy in a one-on-one scrimmage, and he does here, too.

Mark should have had the NFL all-time single season sack record, but an NFC quarterback (Favre) took a dive so an NFC defensive player (Strahan) could win it.

Imagine how many more he might have rung up had he not been so eager to do his signature arm-swinging celebration move while the fumble he just caused was lying at his feet waiting to be picked up.

And do we Really believe that Favre took a dive so that an NFC player could hold the record?

The Gas was having himself a comeback year (seven sacks in seven games) when he retired mid-season.

Then that makes you a party of one.

I don't believe there's a single NFL player who even thinks about a NFC/AFC rivalry, much less one who would plot to do something so inconsequential about it.

IIRC there was a lot of discussion about it back then, mainly from AFC players wo thought it wasn't an honest record. Wasn't an AL batting tittle won because the left fielder let a ball drop so that the other player wouldn't win it? To me, this is the same type of thing.

OF COURSE it wasn't an honest record!!! There are Kalahari bushman who know that Favre ran into Strahan's path before going all turtle.

The point is that to think Favre did that so that a record few care about would be in the hands of an NFC player rather than one of those fucking AFC guys is beyond ridiculous... and that's one of the nicer words I can think of to describe it.

The Brett/McRae story, even if true, isn't even a remote parallel here.
