Couldn't have a better debut -- homering in his first MLB at-bat on the very first pitch he ever swung at. And he's been dreadful ever since that at-bat. Beyond dreadful.

Ten days shy of vesting. If he remains in the minors for the rest of the season (or even if he returns for less than ten days) his FA status is delayed until 2027. In another thread someone suggested the Mets are tanking. I have to think there is something to that.

Is there one sure-fire player who will be available at #1 who could help them?( A Gooden, Seaver or Strawberry)

Is there another reason for tanking in baseball?(Getting the manager fired?)

Protecting picks that would be lost due to exceeding the luxury-tax. I'm too lazy to search but iirc, they lost a pick for doing so, regardless of finish, but the penalty is much reduced if they are in the bottom tier in regards to W-L record as opposed to mid-to-higher tier.

Delaying his free agency and tanking aren't the same thing. given his performance, getting him out of the lineup could be the opposite of tanking but has the benefit of delaying his free agency.



he's been awful anyway has no legitimate gripes about being demoted.
