Memories of Adam Kolarek

Drafted by the Mets in June 2010, it took young Adam over 13 years to finally fulfill his destiny as a Baltimore-born Met.

From Baltimore's (Catonsville's, actually) Balkan community, Adam is the son of Frank and Dorothy Kolarek. Frank was a catcher who had reached AAA with the Athletics back in 1979, which I guess means he played with Rickey Henderson. Frank went on to found The League of Dreams, which introduces and facilitates the joy and passion of playing baseball to people with a broad range of disabilities.

His 4 2/3 innings pitched with no earned runs is third all-time in Mets history behind legends C.J. Nitkowski and Dan Schatzeder's lofty mark of 5 2/3 innings. Should Adam return, he will have a chance to expand upon that mark, or ruin it. In the meantime, he has been stolen away by thieves from Atlanta.

THIEVES!

Always sorry to lose somebody with a distinctive delivery, even if his distinction didn't last a week.

0.00 ERA in 4 appearances, more than a K per inning. Good idea, let's get rid of him. Grant Hartwig and Phil Bickford are much better options.

That encapsulates my memory of Kolarek. I fondly recall him being a decent piece for oh too short a time.

Parenthetically, Sean Reid-Foley has a 0.00 ERA through 5 appearances so far. I'm surprised he's still on the roster at this time, he's doing so well you'd think they would've DFA'd him days ago.

Combined with the Josh Edgin legacy, I like the thought of establishing 66 as a number deployed for lefty specialists.

Literally never heard of him not once. Granted I've missed more baseball in 2023 due to the suckliciousness of our team.

At the trade deadline, just as the Mets were dealing off a billion dollars in personnel, they presumably realized they might need some MLB arms to get through the rest of the season, and they purchased the contracts of Kolarek and Bickford from the Dodgers. They put Bickford right to work, but stashed Koka-Kolarek in Syracuse for a few weeks, until giving him his moment.

And hey, 4 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball ain't the worst moment.
