We've hit balls a lot harder than the Snakes have tonight. It would nice to have a bigger lead on account of it and not spend the next two innings being one pitch away from losing the lead.

Mets have scored more than four runs three times in their last 17 games (losing once and needing extras to win in another) and more than six runs just once.

But are we allowed to use the word "choke" because that's what they seem to do. Has anyone seen performance (BAwRISP VS BA) numbers that might prove this? Later

It's not a case of hitters being either 'clutch' or 'choke', it's that they're simply not hitting enough in ANY situation. Look at the box stores (<4 RS 3 times in last 17 games) they're averaging about 3 RS/G on about a half dozen hits. Most of the HRs are solo nor because they don't know how to hit with men on base but because there so rarely are any. I think we get so busy sometimes piling hate on whichever reliever gave the runs that particular day that we fail to note that nothing but perfection from each of them is good enough because we so rarely score following a few token runs by the 2nd inning.
