TWiB Notes - Sept 18 thru 24

Not that I'm drawing any conclusions based on small sample sizes, recency bias, or past performance predicting future results blah blah. But if the Braves are going to stumble in the upcoming playoffs it's likely to be from their sometimes inconsistent and injury dinged up pitching.

Here are the Braves' RA over the past week:

8, 7, 6, 1, 9, 11, 16, and now 7 more tonight (thru 8) as they trail Philly 7-1 heading to the 9th

San Diego winning four in a row and hosting Colorado, making a last-ditch run at sneaking into the picture.

Major League Baseball suspended Milwaukee Brewers pitcher J.C. Mejía for 162 games after he tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug for the second time.

That's a tough legacy for the name Mejía.

- Braves loss this afternoon was their fifth in six games. It was also their 55th on the year so they can no longer get to the '86 NYM mark of 108 wins, a threshold which seemed reachable until just recently.

At 97 wins they're still likely to surpass 100. The Dodgers are the only other NL that could do so, while the Rox are the only possible 100 game loser this year.

- Yanx loss tonight, to Toronto, drops them back to .500

I want this one so bad I can taste it. Or maybe that's the bourbon.

- A's and Royals have already lost more than 100, but neither will lose 120

The Yanx have four guys in their starting lineup tonight with uniform numbers in the 90s

Some wild pennant/WC chase baseball this afternoon.

- Brewers get down 4-0 early to Miami, come back to tie it, then lose 5-4 on an 8th inning wild pitch

- Blue Jays go down 5-0 in Tampa, come back to not only tie it but take a 6-5 lead after 8. Rays then score twice in bottom 9 to win on a walk-off single.

- Reds are up 8-0 after 3 vs Pirates but perhaps they best not commence enumerating pre-born domestic fowl just yet.

Holy shit!!!

I thought I was joking in that final paragraph... but the Reds went on to LOSE their game on Saturday!!

With Cincy up 9-0 thru 4, the Pirates scored 13 unanswered to take a four run lead. Reds scored two in the 8th and another in the 9th which was just enough to lose 13-12

Wow!
