Tim Wakefield, 1966-2023

The Boston Red Sox have announced that Tim Wakefield, who was a big part of some of the 21st Century's best baseball as the Sox' last best hope when they dug out of a three-games-to-nil hole against the Yankees, has passed away from brain cancer.

Wake embodied true goodness; a devoted husband, father, and teammate, beloved broadcaster, and the ultimate community leader. He gave so much to the game and all of Red Sox Nation.

Our deepest love and thoughts are with Stacy, Trevor, Brianna, and the Wakefield family.

Dude pitched until he was 44 and retired with exactly 200 career wins.

He jump started his career when started throwing the knuckleball.

And, like many successful Knuckleballers (a short list), he pitched into his 40s.

RIP

No there wasn't.

And Wakefield pitching to Varitek after having Mirabelli catch for him all year. Made me poo my pants every time the Yankees got a runner on.

Re: Tim Wakefield, 1966-2023

The news of Wakefield's illness was 'broken' by Curt Shilling on a podcast last week much to the anger of other BoSox friends and the team itself which knew of the diagnosis but kept mum out of respect to the Wakefield family.

The other half of that is that Tim's wife is battling a serious cancer diagnosis of her own.

Howie made reference to this news spilling out just a week prior, though if he mentioned Schilling I missed that.

Curt Schilling - still a dipshit

RIP Wakefield family

R.A. Dickey unfailingly credited Wakefield, Phil Niekro and Charlie Hough as his knuckleball support system as he was learning the pitch that would redefine his career and change his life.

If Mike didn't know him did he really exist?

Re: Tim Wakefield, 1966-2023

Mike should be our national eulogist.

"Feinstein I didn't know, but you hear nice things about her. Solid senator. Not a great senator, but a solid senator. Had some good days."
