The weird thing about that moment is how a lifetime of watching games at Shea and the enormity of the moment put me as in the zone as a fan as Endy was as a defender. As soon as the ball left the bat, an intuitive grasp of Shea's dimensions and the prevailing weather patterns and time of year consumed me, and I knew in an instant that (a) that ball was going over the wall, (b) it was nonetheless within reach of a pullback, (c) it would take a superlative pullback from a player capable of making an NBA leap and pulling it back from two to two and a half feet beyond the fence because that's where it was it was going, and (d) Chavez may well be that guy, and maybe the only guy, for the moment.
