I'd welcome him back.

He left to be a starter. I doubt he'd come back to be in the bullpen.

That's what I meant. Invite him back as a starter. The Mets have several openings.

Old friend Justin Turner declined his player option

He would be a consideration for a RH DH platoon.

He found his power stroke last year but at his age, playing in Fenway might be the reason.

Ottavino declined his option for 2024 with the Mets and is a free agent.

From The Athletic:

“After the trade deadline, I had to see what they were going to do here,” Ottavino said. “They end up firing Buck and then eventually Billy is gone as well, and so then at that point, there was just a lot of uncertainty. The goal was to be here for a long time, and those were the people I was fostering a partnership with, and they were all gone.”

I appreciate his honesty. Ottavino was a favorite player and it'd be a shame to lose him.

That every baserunner turned into a double was a drawback for a late inning reliever.

I do like his point about the lack of continuity. It's hard to believe the Mets whacked Buck so as to wind up with Mendoza

Re: Do You Have Options?

Tim Anderson — whose season was so disastrous that it really made me appreciate Jeff McNeil's 2023 — has had his option unsurprisingly declined by the White Sox.

He's had some really good times, but it's going to be a hard time finding a major-league deal after his season's highlight was landing on the wrong side of a brawl with José Ramirez in which most of the league took Ramirez' side, despite the video evidence being ambiguous.

This. He was really atrocious at holding runners on. I'm OK with him leaving.

Anderson was one of the worst hitters in MLB last year on top of having a history of being a less than model employee. Couldn't pass harder on a guy.

Re: Do You Have Options?

Yeah, that's a pretty bad slash line for '23

He never walked much so a .245 BA and the .286 OBA to go with it are bad enough. But then his power disappeared too: 100 of his 121 hits this past year were singles. 50 or so 'Isolated Slugging' points is Bud Harrelson/late-1960s territory.
