The sidearm throwing righty was acquired along with Duaner Sanchez in exchange for Jae Seo last January. I'm not sure what kind of an arm he has, but I love the fact that he has spent offseasons conducting anti-AIDS research. I'm going to start keeping an eye on this youngster.

Two prospects you've adopted after they've made their big-league debut.

No - I adopted Joe Hietpas on the old board when he was still with Binghamton.

I saw a friend today who is at the NIH working on the AIDS vaccine. I didn't get a chance to ask him if he knows the Schmoller.

On the DL

It doesn't look like we'll be seeing Schmoll this September - he just went on the disabled list with some sort of leg injury :(

It was a hamstring problem. And Steve is on the 60-day DL as a result of it.

We'll see him in the spring.

Dang :(

The Mets claimed pitcher Marcos Carvajal on waivers this morning from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. To make room on the 40-man roster, reliever Steve Schmoll was designated for assignment.

Steve cleared waivers, and he'll be a Zephyr this year.
