Can the film possibly fully capture all the nuance of Dan Brown's craptastic writing style?

Am I the only person in America to have not read that book? I'm vaguely intrigued but I strongly suspect it won't be worth my time.

I never read it either but did read the prequel for a book club. Dan Brown can't write for crap. I also know several people who tried to read the Da Vince Code but gave up after about 20 - 30 pages because it was so bad. They are page-turners and have the whole conspiracy theory angle going for them but I still don't see why his books are so popular.

I thought the Da Vinci Code was much better than its prequel. Brown's style may be craptastic, but it was much more craptastic in the first one. I also thought Angels & Demons crossed the line from "silly little thriller" to "oh come on now, that's just ridiculous" when ****distorted, overexaggerated spoiler ahead*** the main character jumps from a helicopter using his ziploc sandwich bag as a parachute. I liked the Da Vinci Code...I thought it was fun. And if you read when I read (commutes, waiting for my cases to be called) the more mindless the better. Of course, I also really like Harold and Kumar, so maybe that's just me. In fact, my biggest problem with the book is that it created an entire wave of idiot religious historians. "Well, actually, Christmas is based on an old Pagan holiday blah blah blah." Yeah that's great buddy. I read the Da Vinci Code too.

Harold and Kumar was hysterical. The DaVinci Code, OTOH, has the potential to be preachy and boring. D-Dad promised Impulse2 that he'd take her to see DaVinci. I'll wait for their review, but my inclination is to skip it (or at least wait until it's available through On Demand).

In fact, my biggest problem with the book is that it created an entire wave of idiot religious historians. Can you imagine what it must be like for tour guides in European Art museums and churches? "Yes any questions?" "Isn't the figure beside Jesus not John but Mary Magdalene? "Ah, yes, the Magdalene theory. Well if you look at how young men were painted in this period of the Rennaissance, John is pretty cons..." "Why are you covering for the Church's secrets?" "So, I take it that you've read Da Vinci Code?" "Well, yes, I have, and I'd like to say that..." "And was it the first book you've read?"

Reminiscent of my friends who worked at Jamestown and what they had to go through after Disney's Pochahantas was released. The most fun was trying to explain where the waterfall was in the completely flat Tidewater Virginia region.

I read in one of today's NY Daily News articles about the movie that there's another film out with the title "The DaVinci Load". Its a porn flick, the premise of which is that DaVinci used his "bodily fluids" to paint part of the Mona Lisa, and those fluids have mystical powers. One reviewer said that's probably more believable than the premise of the DaVinci Code. (I wonder how one becomes a porn movie reviewer?) Later

Seriously, the naked male body is a frightening thing. It's a blessing that not all women are lesbians as a result. Although porn would be a lot more interesting if they were. That moustache style reminds me of Burt Reynolds more than anyone else.

Heh, funny thing about that actually, was on a Jim Rome message board and posted a UMDB link to the game in 1994 that was featured on the cover of SI as Kyle "Likes To Fight Guy" Farnsworth joined the Braves and I wanted to do a "Welcome to Fight Club" thing for Farnsworth. Someone pointed out Jeff Kent's Porn Stache in Kent's mugshot by calling him "Porn Stache" and at first I thought the poster was commenting that someone on the Mets was known to have had a pretty large porn stash! Took me a while to realize he was reffering to Jeff Kent's mustache!

I hadn't followed this thread since it first started, preferring to draw my own conclusions. 88, I totally agree. You posted what I was going to say. It seemed that at every point where something contrary to traditional teachings came up, Langdon immediately provided the counterpoint, to "balance" the arguement by putting it into Historical context.
