IGT -- Mets @ Phils, 5/10

Johnny Dickshot
May 10 2006 09:28 AM

I am declaring an ABP for the Met offense tonight. I want to see them score a dozen runs and bounce back from their minislump. I want David Wright to be in the middle of not one but three run-scoring rallies. I want Billy Wagner and his big mouth to watch from the bullpen while he gets the night off.

The Phils are riding high and are due for, and deserving of, a savage beatdown. I wanna win tonight, and win big.

Let's F'ing Go Mets, dammit.

Me too! I'm ready for a blowout!

Did you see the way the Phillies were strutting around last night? That's gotta stop!

The sad thing is we stole that win from them last night and then politely handed it back.

Yeah. The way things are, any game started by Pedro or Glavine is a must-win, because of how shaky things get after that.

The ever-handy UMBD notes that was win No. 400 for the Phils in their history vs. the Mets. Phuckers.

Reyes swings at shit for a ground out.
LoDuca wrists a single to left center.
Come on Carlos B.

Beltran puts one right thru 1st baseman Howards legs--wow--that was a wicked shot.

Utley makes a great play--Lidle makes a BAD error trying to get Beltran at 3rd.

Glavines curve ball right thru the zone is a ball.

Nice DP pulled by the Mets, Reyes to Matsui (with the bare hand and pivot---nice) to Delgado.

I'm just poking my head in here for a moment.

I'm watching the Phillie telecast too. When they asked that question, the first name to pop into my head was David Cone.

Nice play in the first inning by Kaz on the double play. Reyes flipped him the ball and Matsui caught it bare-handed with his back to first base, spun, and gunned out the batter at first.

Glavine has the Phillies hitless through 3. With a 10-run lead, will he continue to flirt with the no-hitter? I used to yearn for a Mets no-hitter, but now I kinda hope the Mets never get one. The lack of a no-hitter, after all these years, gives them something unique. Once they get one, they'll be just like all those other teams that have had no-hitters.

I may feel differently if Glavine still has it going with two outs in the 9th. However, I'll be watching Lost by then, so if it happens I won't find out until later. Maybe I'll TiVo the last few innings.

Bullshit-theres no time clock in baseball.

Edgy DC
May 10 2006 09:59 PM

To heck with the right way to play the game. The most a team owes you in the late innings of a blowout is to pull a few of their stars. You can't ask players --- particularly those struggling to retain or improve their roles --- not to play.

Throwing bombs for TDs late in a game where there's a finite amount of time to score is not the same thing as simply deciding not to play. "Running out the clock" helps the winning team to win since it, well ... runs out the clock. Choosing not to tag doesn't bring about the end of the game any sooner.

There's nothing for Philly to be upset about tonight except for their own inept play.

Heh. One of the funniest things I've ever hear a sports radio host do to an ignorant caller happened one day when a young caller called Russ Salzberg on WFAN.

The caller said he looked at Koufax's stats and wondered "Where's The Beef" and Russ laid into him like the caller was defacing a sacred landmark. What made it funny was, Russ didn't actually answer the question, just basically acted all "How dare YOU QUESTION the greatness of Sandy Koufax ya punk!" and hung up the phone!

I really wonder how Salzberg lasted as long as he did on that station

yeah, Koufax in 1963 was the best ever......if I had a wish of any player I could see it would be Koufax in '63.....for every game he pitched.

I never saw the David Wright play, and forgot to TiVo Sportscenter yesterday. I'm very sad.
