IGT - 5/12/06 - Mets @ Milwaukee-Lima tries to stay perfect

It's Lima time. Time for the Mets line up to take out their frustration after last night's defeat on Brewers starter Dave Bush.

Seeing how they play in a dome, this shouldn't affect the game.

I think this is the first time I ever watched a game played at Miller Park. (Thanks MLB Extra Innings. When I relied on ESPN and Fox for my Mets games, they never telecast Mets-Brewers.) The quality of the light seems odd. The roof is closed, so it's artificial lighting, but something about it looks strange.

On top of that, the Brewers announcers sound like they're sitting about ten rows behind me.

Nice to see two runs in the first. The Mets may need a lot of scoring with Lima pitching. I have no confidence in the guy with the Harpo hair.

I'l say this for Lima --- it feels like a while since anybody --- Pedro even --- has been able to let his character hang out like this. A taste of the Valentine era.

Nymr83
May 12 2006 09:13 PM

Edgy, are you implying that shenanigans went on on Valentine's watch?

I'll second that; I logged on here just to make that remark.

The character just gave up a Celilian homer to Prince.

Nymr83
May 12 2006 09:22 PM

This was a close second, the best homerun i've seen still remains the Mo Vaughn shot off of the budweiser sign on the Shea scoreboard, though McGwire hitting his own number on the board was nice too, and probably more impressive since he was a righty.

Edgy DC
May 12 2006 09:35 PM

Settle down Lima.

so much for lima-time, its 4-3 brewers on a bases clearing double.

lima wasnt walking anyone in the minors but in 2 starts here he has gotten into trouble because of walks and falling behind in the count generally. i'd give him one more start and if he has control issues again i'd send him back down. i'm willing to be patient with a pitcher who can find the strike zone even if he isnt doing too well, i have NO patience for guys who "walk the ballpark" (see: Ishii, Kaz)

Thanks, Dave Bush. Go 3-1 on Valentin so you can throw two strikes and crush all our hopes and dreams.

Nymr83

there is no way valentin should have batted with runners on, do we want to get back into this game or what?

smg58
May 12 2006 10:00 PM

That inning couldn't end soon enough.

You know, Bill Hall has never held a full time position because they don't like his defense, but he can't possibly be a worse second baseman than Weeks.

Carlos Lee dives into the tarp, and every Brewers fan has a heart attack.

Zvon
May 12 2006 11:17 PM

so-does Lima get another start?
Does Lima ever get the ball again as a Met?
Do the Mets break up their pen by giving Heilman some starts?
Do they pull off a deal?,.......find a stop gap within?

Stay tuned tomorrow night...

I watched this game from behind home plate. I have to watch the game on MLB.TV and see if I can see me. Oddly there were a ton of other Mets fans in the seats around me.

I didn't expect much from Lima, but it was pretty rotten that he actually pitched effectively for so long that I actually got hope we'd get out of it. He imploded with 2 outs and seemed to have a gazillion chances to get strike three and escape unscathed but didn't. It's like that thing Leiter was criticized about a few years back of getting two strikes and then throwing crap instead of going after the guy.

Is Prince Fielder going to join the Pat Burrell Society of Met Killers?

Anyhow, it was a fun night at the ballpark other than the outcome. Drank some Leinie's, ate some cheese fries, saw my first sausage race and rode back on a bus full of Mets fans to a hotel also full of Mets fans.

Well I had my room to myself at least. Just one Mets fan there. And I didn't have nightmares despite all the Wisconsin beer and cheese I consumed.

Willets Point
May 15 2006 02:52 PM

One more thing, there was a foul pop up that I believe Carlos Lee went after but didn't get to it because the tarp tripped him up. Which begs the question: Miller Park has a retractable roof (closed the entire weekend), why do they even have a tarp?

Edgy DC
May 15 2006 03:12 PM

Rules.

Besides, it wouldn't be the first roof to fail to retract when needed.

metirish
May 15 2006 03:13 PM

Does the roof still have those leaks, remember when the Mets palyed there a few years ago and the damn roof was leaking like crazy, maybe that's why they have the tarp.

Willets Point
May 15 2006 04:15 PM

Good point. I was trying to make the point to the guys next to me that if a sudden storm came up they may need the tarp because it takes 10 minutes for the roof to close. I didn't even think of the roof not being able to close.

FWIW, it rained all weekend and I notice no leaks.
