Hillbilly
May 14 2006 03:14 PM

Pedro gets the 2-strike bunt down. Lets go Jose!

Zvon
May 14 2006 03:15 PM

Nice sac bunt by Martinez puts 2 in scoring position with 2 out.......
but Reyes breaks his bat grounding out to end the inning.

The radio guys announce that the Mets have not "publicly thought" about Saturday's pitcher, although they concede that they have certainly thought about it in private.

Question: Isn't all thinking, by definition, private? Does this have something to do with elaborate avoidance of the "L" word? Wouldn't the statement convey the same thing if they'd said "The Mets say they haven't thought about Saturday's pitcher very much, but that's some kind of lie--they're obviously thinking about it a lot, but they're saying that they haven't"?

Rally song brought to you by NRBQ by way of Dave Edmunds:

Just a bunch of guys driving in the car
No matter who's driving or for how far
Feels so good, yeah it's been so long
No fancy drivers tell us how to drive

Me and the boys!
Just me and the boys!
Me and the boys!

Me and my buddies just like to go
We're having fun, everybody knows
We don't fuss and we never fight
We're just grooving, taking in the sights

Me and the boys!
Just me and the boys!
Me and the boys!

Don't raise questions ‘bout how it's done
We're just messing round, having fun
The car gears shifting well up and down
The muffler’s fallin’ out, but we love the sound

Me and the boys!
Just me and the boys!
Me and the boys!

It ain't like us to hang around this town
Cause downtown squares just bring us down
I've got to find me something new
Don't want to think about what they do, yeah…

The future's no problem, now, we don't care
‘Cause wherever we're going, we'll soon get there

Me and the boys!
Just me and the boys!
Me and the boys!

BADABOOM

Zvon
May 14 2006 04:08 PM

Delgado lost the pink bat.

Edgy DC
May 14 2006 04:12 PM

Big big error by Ricky Weeks.

They bring in the LOOGy to get Delgado, he induces the grounder, but Weeks boots it. Now they have to go Kolb with one down in the seventh to go after Wright.

Zvon
May 14 2006 04:12 PM

Weeks errors the funky humpback liner off Delgado.
...Errors kill, ya know.
As do walks, which is how Beltran got on.

Wright up.
2 on-1 out.

Time to do it David.

Zvon
May 14 2006 04:16 PM

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

huge hit by Wright.
HUGE error by Jenkins.
METS TIE IT!

Edgy DC
May 14 2006 04:16 PM

Wright getting a crap call from the umpire, still hangs in there and ties it with a dubble.

A dubble, Rubble!

Zvon
May 14 2006 04:17 PM

wow--no error on the play.
Wright doubles in 2 (< that sounds better anyway).

metirish
May 14 2006 04:18 PM

How was that NOT an error on Jenkins?....

Zvon
May 14 2006 04:22 PM

Ya know-even if it was a clean double (which it wasnt) no way was Delgado going to score on a typical double.
He only made it cuz the ball was so far into right field.

I shouldnt complain tho- it works for Wright.

Tie ball game- mid 7th.

DocTee
May 14 2006 04:22 PM

Four runs on three hits; Zvon's right: walks and errors do kill.

Bret Sabermetric

Zvon
May 14 2006 04:39 PM

Matsui way out in front of that change up.

Zvon

sanchez in, and gives up a lead off hit.
Nice try by Nady on that line single.

Takin a chance there but he kept it in front of him.

Zvon
May 14 2006 04:44 PM

Uh-oh

Errors do something id rather not bring up right now.

Delgado errors the sac bunt and all safe.
1st & 2nd-no one out for Mil.

Zvon
May 14 2006 04:47 PM

Brewers sac em over the 2nd & 3rd.
One out.

Nice play by Castro waiting for a clear path to throw.

Edited 2 time(s), most recently on May 14 2006 05:04 PM

Wow.

Let's get that down for posterity.

2 hopper in the hole, SS goes into short left to pick it up, does a jump throw. The throw bounces on its way to first, Cecil Jr has to sort of dive as he's reaching for it, he grabs it in his glove a full step before Nady touches first as he's falling down. But when he hits the ground it fell out of his glove.

Base hit correctly called. If Fielder had held onto it it would've been a great play on both ends. AND, if he had been out, either Nady is ridiculously slow or he wasn't hustling the whole way.

Zvon
May 14 2006 05:01 PM

WHEW

Nady gets it done with an infield single.
Tie game.

wow---- Delgado getting over to third was HUGE.

DAMN!
Clark makes a diving catch to get the brewers out of it.

metirish
May 14 2006 05:02 PM

Gray was right about how big Delgado going to 3rd on Wrights grounder....it's the small things that he does that are also impressive.

Edgy DC
May 14 2006 05:03 PM

That wasn't quite diving.

The ump was pumped to call Nady out there. Would he have been?

I thought safe at first. Replay says maybe not.

Zvon
May 14 2006 05:06 PM

I think Ramon Castro should replace David Wright for ninth-inning defense.

Nymr83

if that was to his left or right- he makes the play no problem.
Its the ones right to him...i dunno what it is.
But i used to play third and Id have to say a lack of concentration.

he finds himself with too much time and he thinks---if it was hit harder he would have made it as well.

whew

Mets get out of it.

Elster88
May 14 2006 05:16 PM

I think the fact that they DO seem so concentrated in the ninth could be a point in favor of Wright being a good fielder. Maybe he only makes errors in "big" spots, so he actually is an excellent fielder. 'Course, I doubt there will be many subscribers to that idea on this site.

Zvon
May 14 2006 05:18 PM

there's no doubt that Wrights a good fielder.

Elster88

Elster88 - "I think the fact that they DO seem so concentrated in the ninth could be a point in favor of Wright being a good fielder. Maybe he only makes errors in "big" spots, so he actually is an excellent fielder."

I find that remark particularly funny, considering you currently carry the designation of Armando Benitez.

Nice job of pitching out of the inning by Bradford. Let's get some runs and end this thing.

ScarletKnight41
May 14 2006 05:20 PM

I love Mr. Wright, but I don't think that he's a naturally gifted fielder.

Nymr83
May 14 2006 05:20 PM

And I think their being concentrated in the 9th is why we remember them and comment on them the next time Wright makes an error.
Reyes probably has 3 or 4 this year and i can't remember a single one of them, but i have 3 of wright's stuck in my head because of when they came. if reyes made an error tommorow in the 9th i don't think anyone who start calling him error-prone or question his fielding.

I get your point Nymr83, that they have been errors in the 9th inning of close games.

Maybe its the "my worst fear" syndrome, which would be Wrights worst fear, to make an error in that situation.

DocTee

This sucks-- heading into a tough part of the schedule too.

I have a feeling this will be the 2006 equivalent of that deflating loss vs. Pittsburgh last year. You have to beat the also-rans if you are a serious contender-- the Yankees made a cottage industry out of drubbing Kansas City and Tampa Bay for years; we need to clean house against Washington, Florida and win series from the Milwaukees of the world. This blows.

Rockin' Doc

I was a a Mothers Day party at my sister's place, I bring my 6 month year old nephew over to the TV to watch a little ball. JUST at the moment Hall cracks the game winner!

No joke, went down the hall, heard there was a double switch and made the wrong assumption. Still lack of hitting with men on and bad play in the field were biggest contributors to this loss.
