IGT 5/19/06 - Mets vs. Yankees
Gwreck May 19 2006 01:17 AM |
Yeah, starting this a little early, but we need to get the mojo workin' early and often. I know that you believe in me, that's all I ever need, uh huh
Centerfield May 19 2006 03:19 PM |
Do they get this one in?
Hillbilly May 19 2006 03:20 PM |
If not maybe they could do some kind of cool 2 statium day night double header...never mind
ScarletKnight41 May 19 2006 03:25 PM |
They'll get the game in. They'll skip BP, but they'll get the game in.
Centerfield May 19 2006 03:26 PM |
My prediction: Scoreless through 5. In the top of the 6th, MFY's scratch out a run to take a 1-0 lead. Mets load the bases with no one out in the bottom of the sixth. Delgado hits a shot that appears to be headed out of the ballpark. At that instant, the Umpires stop the game, order the ball to stop mid-flight, and we have our first rain delay. Downpour ensues. After an hour, the game is called. MFY's win 1-0.
metirish May 19 2006 03:27 PM |
I bet anything if Wagner gets to pitch tonight the TV guys will show Rivera's face when " enter sandman" is blasting.

I was at the first rainout that neccessitated that infamous game. Funny thing is that I was traveling with a college buddy and was going to meet other college buds there. One of them lived out in Far Rockaways and his car broke down, just as we were about to park at Yankee Stadium. So we head over to pick him up and we get there as the deluge is underway. We see Ventura do his best Rick Dempsey act, game gets called and we dropped off our friend back in the Far Rockaways. In other words, we passed Shea Stadium 4 times that night, Yankee Stadium 3 times and saw no baseball!

Anyone know which games of the NYY series will be carried on ch. 11 or 9--I'm trying to plan out my weekend.
Willets Point May 19 2006 04:11 PM |
My Mets schedule & the Yankees web page say Friday's game is on WB & WWOR, Saturday's game is on Fox, and Sunday's game is ESPN.
Vic Sage May 19 2006 04:16 PM |
can we please move mr. jones' newest jem to the red light forum?

GYC May 19 2006 06:08 PM |
Valentin starting in LF tonight.
Nymr83 May 19 2006 06:16 PM |

if the bottom of the 6th isn't completed then a run that scored in the top of the 6th can't win the game. i think the mets would be very happy with 0-0 after 5 considering that Gonzalez is pitching against Johnson.
Gwreck May 19 2006 06:29 PM |
MFYs
Frayed Knot May 19 2006 06:30 PM |
Reyes
Gwreck May 19 2006 06:37 PM |
I think his name is Mitch Jones. OF. 6-20-.239 (815 OPS), 41 K in 134 AB at Columbus. If he plays it'll be his ML-debut.
Nymr83 May 19 2006 06:42 PM |
Mitch Jones was once the pride of the Staten Island Yankees.
Frayed Knot May 19 2006 06:43 PM |
So other than the fact that I was late with the lineups, had them slightly off,
Gwreck May 19 2006 06:48 PM |
It was a great KTE. Only reason I was able to scoop you on the lineups (unintentionally, sorry 'bout that) was because I got a call from Shea and had them read me the lineup off the scoreboard.
ScarletKnight41 May 19 2006 06:48 PM |
Melky Cabrera was in AA Trenton a year ago.
ScarletKnight41 May 19 2006 07:20 PM |
Blech - 2-0 MFY's in the first with two outs. A-Rod and Torre complain about the call at second that resulted in the first out.
ScarletKnight41 May 19 2006 07:21 PM |
Make that 3-0.
metirish May 19 2006 07:21 PM |
3 - Zip as Cano drives in Giambi, this sucks.
TheOldMole May 19 2006 07:21 PM |
Any thoughts on how this could get any worse?
Gwreck May 19 2006 07:22 PM |
Please, no. Get Oliver warmed up.
ScarletKnight41 May 19 2006 07:22 PM |
Williams' extra base hit made it worse.
TheOldMole May 19 2006 07:22 PM |
OK...that's how.
ScarletKnight41 May 19 2006 07:24 PM |
They're walking Melky Cabrera?
ScarletKnight41 May 19 2006 07:25 PM |
Johnson K's to end the first. 4-0 MFYs.
Gwreck May 19 2006 07:30 PM |
Not sure I can remember a time when Jose took the first 5 pitches of an at-bat.
TheOldMole May 19 2006 07:33 PM |
maybe so...LoDuca pops one in for a Texas League single.

I hate AL baseball, and this is going to be like it even with the pitcher. My god, this is painful.
Gwreck May 19 2006 07:43 PM |
Hopefully Gonzalez can get a few more outs this time through the order.
ScarletKnight41 May 19 2006 07:47 PM |
Who is this guy who came in to pitch a 1-2-3 second inning? He's way better than the guy who pitched in the first.
TheOldMole May 19 2006 07:48 PM |
Hey, I'd trade Lastings Milledge for him.
ScarletKnight41 May 19 2006 07:50 PM |
Posada somehow injures himself while warming Johnson up. Stinnet is now catching.
Gwreck May 19 2006 07:52 PM |
Howie Rose not-so-subtly suggesting that Randy might've pitched a fit and demanded a new catcher. (Apparently he and Posada have a history).
GYC May 19 2006 07:53 PM |
Howie Rose just said something about an AFC matchup. I didn't know it was football season.

Speaking of, who is this guy wearing Jose Valentin's uniform, taking pitches and working out an 11-pitch walk?
GYC May 19 2006 07:58 PM |
Valentin steals 3rd base. Standing.

That Seaver-- he sure is a stud muffin.

GYC May 19 2006 08:11 PM |
Infield single for the Big Eunuch. That's stupid. Bases juiced for Damon.
metirish May 19 2006 08:14 PM |
Seaver is not even staying for the game, heading back to the City he tells Gary after being asked to stay for the rest of the inning.
GYC May 19 2006 08:15 PM |
Reyes may have sprained his wrist on the IF single!
Johnny Dickshot May 19 2006 08:20 PM |

Oliver should be good for 3 innings, probably. Let's go Darren.
Gwreck May 19 2006 08:31 PM |
Reading the tea leaves it sounds like we could well have Soler and maybe Heilman starting soon. Thank god.

Johnny Dickshot May 19 2006 08:34 PM |

TheOldMole May 19 2006 08:47 PM |
I've only seen it with Jackie Robinson.
Gwreck May 19 2006 08:48 PM |
...and he steals the base anyway. Suck it Randy.

TheOldMole May 19 2006 08:48 PM |
Once again, Beltran with two on...
Gwreck May 19 2006 08:52 PM |
Can't get 'em it. Here's hoping they let Johnson bat so we get another crack at him.

SteveJRogers May 19 2006 08:53 PM |
Its like the whole MLB is filled with Joe McEwings!

Joe McEwing = furure Mets manager.
TheOldMole May 19 2006 08:59 PM |
Alyssa Milano at the game.
Gwreck May 19 2006 09:00 PM |
I guess she's not dating Zito anymore? Or....maybe... :)
TheOldMole May 19 2006 09:00 PM |
And David Wright treats her to a base hit.
TheOldMole May 19 2006 09:00 PM |
You suppose she's scouting the Mets for Barry?
Gwreck May 19 2006 09:02 PM |

Here's hoping, but apparently Alyssa is no longer dating Barry and is now linked to Brad Penny.

Joe McEwing, Tim Bogar, Ty Wigginton throw them into the "Usefull backups that somehow get tabbed "Shea Fan Favorites" by Non-Met Fans and Media Because Mets Fans are supposed to like the little guy" category
ScarletKnight41 May 19 2006 09:04 PM |
Zito was after Carl Pavano and before Matt Leinart.
SteveJRogers May 19 2006 09:05 PM |
I mean how many times am I going to hear MFY Fans say "We have Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle, who do you have Ed Kranepool? Mookie Wilson? Rusty Staub? PLEASE"
SteveJRogers May 19 2006 09:07 PM |
I swear I may start a thread about why it seems nationally the Met Fan Base is perceived as only loving the little guys and not much love to the stars of the team.

Heilman throwing in the pen...he'll be in next inning.
Gwreck May 19 2006 09:11 PM |
This would be a good time to maybe think about a double-steal...
metirish May 19 2006 09:12 PM |

Rockin' Doc May 19 2006 09:26 PM |

I thought about running for LoDuca as soon as he got on but rejected it. I might have if were the run needed to tie a game - but the odds that the diff in speed would make the crucial difference were real small and it's a 2-player move (burns Chavez & Castro) leaving only Franco on the bench of a game headed for extra innings. If it were Castro out there insted of LoDuca then I might.
Johnny Dickshot May 20 2006 10:51 AM |

Also, to answer someone's point about that ball being too close to take--it could easily go the other way, that great hitters, especialy great OBP guys like A-Rod play by the Jordan rules. Or in this case the Ted Williams rule: "Son, Mr. WiIlliams will let know which pitches are strikes by whacking them off the right field wall for ya.." OE: fixe'd coding
GYC May 20 2006 11:12 AM |
It looked like, to me, that A-Rods left foot missed 2nd base and the tag was applied before his right foot touched.

For what its worth I'm not too certain Jetah actually got a glove on Reyes when he was caught stealing. He swiped at him but I never saw conclusively that he touched him.
