IGT 5/20/06, Mets (Pedro) vs. Yankees (Mussina)
Gwreck May 20 2006 01:16 AM |
Alright, this worked well for game one, so this afternoon's rally song will keep our theme going...Let's Go METS! World turns black and white
KC May 20 2006 11:53 AM |
BOMBERS
GYC May 20 2006 12:37 PM |
Aim for left field.
soupcan May 20 2006 12:37 PM |
Van Hagar instead of David Lee?
Gwreck May 20 2006 12:55 PM |
Easy now, it worked just fine last night. I wouldn't have broken out the Van Halen unless it was an important game... :)
metirish May 20 2006 01:27 PM |
Joe Buck is so annoying, Jeter on second.
Gwreck May 20 2006 01:31 PM |
No matter, he gets steroids to pop up and gets slappy looking.
metirish May 20 2006 01:31 PM |
Pedro seems to just have a great sence for the big moments, made Gay-Rod look foolish just now.
abogdan May 20 2006 01:31 PM |
Pedro gets out of the jam.
metirish May 20 2006 01:32 PM |
I think my main problem with Buck is that he thinks he's so funny, Morgan is just a fool that gets played by Miller.
Gwreck May 20 2006 01:36 PM |
Damn! Another error on Rodriguez. How sad.
metirish May 20 2006 01:37 PM |
Reyes to 3rd after stealing 2nd and a wild throw by Stinnett..
Rockin' Doc May 20 2006 01:38 PM |
Reyes says, "Speed Kills."
ScarletKnight41 May 20 2006 01:40 PM |
An RBI double for Beltran makes it 1-0 good guys!
abogdan May 20 2006 01:40 PM |
Beltran listens to the "hit it to LF" advice. Cairo can't play LF as Beltran drives in Reyes and ends up at 2B. 1-0.
metirish May 20 2006 01:40 PM |
Beltran brings him home with a double over Cairo....I think Beltran has won the fans over....finally.
ScarletKnight41 May 20 2006 01:44 PM |
Just like his last at bat, Wright hits a catchable long fly over Damon's head for an RBI double!
TheOldMole May 20 2006 01:44 PM |
Just like last night!
Zvon May 20 2006 01:44 PM |
HA!
TheOldMole May 20 2006 01:45 PM |
If Beltran isn't a fan favorite by now, there's no hope.
Bret Sabermetric May 20 2006 01:46 PM |
Which reminds me: Does Wright get credited with a double in last night's game? Picture-perfect demonstration that he could have made second easily--so how does that get scored when it's a game winner? Like Ventura's grand-slam single?
ScarletKnight41 May 20 2006 01:48 PM |
It's a single. And he's happy to have it.
TransMonk May 20 2006 01:48 PM |
It was a single...he never made it to second...just like '99.
Gwreck May 20 2006 01:48 PM |
Wright was credited with a single last night.
Rockin' Doc May 20 2006 01:55 PM |
Pedro mows down the Yankees in the second.
Rockin' Doc May 20 2006 02:01 PM |
Mets go down quietly in the second.
Zvon May 20 2006 02:08 PM |
Pierzynski goes down loudly in Chicago.
Bret Sabermetric May 20 2006 02:08 PM |
Fox just played a home-plate collision--A.J. Pierzynski barrelled into Michael Barrett, Barrett threw a punch--and BOTH of them got thrown out?!?!? WTF? That was as clean an attempt to knock the ball out of Barrett's hand as I (Or McCarver) could imagine.
ScarletKnight41 May 20 2006 02:12 PM |
Captain Intangibles strikes out to end the top of the third.
Zvon May 20 2006 02:13 PM |
Guess we'll have to wait to see the whole event. It looked innocent enough until the second time they bumped. I was still quite surprized by that punch. He laid into him. Pedro Ks that shortstop guy on that "other" New York team. :)
Gwreck May 20 2006 02:30 PM |
Pedro works around a single by slappy. I wish his pitch count was a little lower, though -- 68 through 4 innings.

Delgado Ka-Booms to straightaway center to make it 3-0 good guys -
KC May 20 2006 02:38 PM |
The kabooms here have really gone hi-tech. Sadly, I don't get to whip out

Zvon May 20 2006 02:44 PM |
Okay-Floyd makes up for his 1st inning boo-boo with that nice grab.
ScarletKnight41 May 20 2006 02:57 PM |
3-0 good guys after the top of the 6th.
Rockin' Doc May 20 2006 03:00 PM |
We need more runs. Let's Go Mets!
KC May 20 2006 03:04 PM |
Through six, up 3-sniffle -- we need more runs.
KC May 20 2006 03:04 PM |
Alright, so I'm a little slow ...
Rockin' Doc May 20 2006 03:04 PM |
No insurance runs as the heart of the order go down 1-2-3.

TheOldMole May 20 2006 03:08 PM |
Mets do better on rundowns than the Yanks.

The Yankees were so close to scoring that inning, but Pedro slams the door shut with a fastball low and away to ring up Stinnent with runners teammates on second and third.

Duaner is awesome.
dinosaur jesus May 20 2006 03:31 PM |
Does anyone know how many DP's he's induced this year? It seems like a hell of a lot.

Tim gets it wrong! Plagiarism by Wagner on entrance music? He used it before Mariano.
Edgy DC May 20 2006 03:48 PM |
Um, Billy. Throw strikes.
TheOldMole May 20 2006 03:49 PM |
Billy has other problems than plagiarism.
Gwreck May 20 2006 03:50 PM |
...and there goes the shutout. FUCK.
Rockin' Doc May 20 2006 03:52 PM |
Giambi singles to center and Pay-Rod draws a walk. I thought Wagner had him on the 2-2 pitch, but Blue didn't see it that way.
Gwreck May 20 2006 03:56 PM |
Shit, Billy. WTF?
TheOldMole May 20 2006 03:56 PM |
I hate this. Well, at least it's Kelly Stinnett.

Rockin' Doc May 20 2006 04:00 PM |
Unbelievable. Wagner has such electric stuff, but it doesn't do any good if you can't throw it over the plate.
KC May 20 2006 04:02 PM |
We'll see what happens, but why was Wags brought in today anyway? He

Any idiot could see that Wagner should NOT have been facing Williams. WTF?!?!?!?!
TheOldMole May 20 2006 04:03 PM |
So close, and yet so far. That ball was hit so slowly, they were lucky to make it even that close. Tie ball game. Nice pitch by Feliciano.
Nymr83 May 20 2006 04:04 PM |
fuck. got 1 but inches from 2 and now it's tied, Bradford vs. Jeter... i don't like this one bit

The Big O May 20 2006 04:05 PM |
Anyone else think it seemed like a slow turn / slight double-clutch from Kaz?

This might make me weep.
Rockin' Doc May 20 2006 04:08 PM Edited 1 time(s), most recently on May 20 2006 04:09 PM |
This is a perfect example of the over specialization of bullpens in modern baseball. Sanchez was going well and should have started (and hopefully finished) the ninth, but not in today's era. Now the roles are laid out in advance. Set up man pitches the eighth then you go to your closer. Seems no one is willing to deviate from the formulaic approach.
Edgy DC May 20 2006 04:08 PM |
Willie, I secondguess thee.
TheOldMole May 20 2006 04:09 PM |
Jeter waves at a 65-MPH pitch, and then Bradford gets him. Let's go for another walk-off 9th, guys.
Batty31 May 20 2006 04:10 PM |
I'm not watching or listening...who do we have coming up at the bottom of the 9th?
Gwreck May 20 2006 04:10 PM |
Alright, no big deal, we can beat Rivera. RALLY TIME!!!
Rockin' Doc May 20 2006 04:11 PM |
I don't think Reyes or Jeter did anything wrong on Damon's ground ball to short. It wasn't hit hard enough to turn two with Damon running.
TransMonk May 20 2006 04:11 PM |
Stupid...with a 4 run lead you leave your closer who saved a game last night in the pen. Trot Julio or Feliciano out there. Now it's going to take 6 pitchers to win this game after Pedro pitched a shutout through 7 innings.
Rockin' Doc May 20 2006 04:12 PM |
Nady, Castro, and a pinch hitter due up.
metsmarathon May 20 2006 04:12 PM |
at least we know this wasn't a big game. if it was, you'd hafta think captain intagibles would've won it right therre, instead of bouncing out to matsui...

I knew we'd live to regret not getting Kaz in from 3rd.
Zvon May 20 2006 04:15 PM |
no. he did all he could. Pedros performance wasted. I am weeping over here. Its easy to say now, and I didnt want to throw any jinx out there earlier, but bringin in Wags was a mistake. I know Willie must be thinkin lets take these 1st 2 and relax tomorrow- But we showed Wags off last night, he was flashy, and he just wasnt needed at that point today. Well-at least you cant say they slapped Wagner around. That was all lack of control. Im just soooo bummed Pedro gets no win here.

Thats humble of you but we all let you off the hook. Big K there for the second out by Julio. Cairo steals around the horn. And scores on a Phillips baseknock. Ugh!

That's kind of how they played the last few innings. Randolph acted as though it would be a challenge to the fates to stop the Yankees' rally by pulling out Wagner or an affront to the baseball gods to try to keep Cairo from advancing.
Zvon May 20 2006 05:19 PM |
Ya know--if Wagner gets em 1-2-3 in the 9th Willie does good.

I nominate this game for "Worst Loss of the Year." Reminiscent of Looper in Pittsburgh last year only worse cuz its the MFY's at home. I don't want to see the game that could beat it for worst lost.
DocTee May 20 2006 09:38 PM |
Absolutely. And I thought last Sunday's defeat was bad! This takes the cake--
Bret Sabermetric May 20 2006 09:52 PM |
Yup. What makes it even worse for me was that I lost my biggest I-told-you-so ever--I DVDed the game and practically coughed up my liver bitching when when WWSB took out Sanchez and put in Wagner. Wasn't concerned so much that Wagner would blow it as much as Wagner worked last night and could be needed tomorrow, while Sanchez looked terrific. I was all WTF is he doing,? and I'm still all WTF. For me this just happened 15 minutes ago, and I'm still red in the face. I don't blame Wagner at all--this is ALL on WWSB.
