OlerudOwned May 24 2006 06:29 PM |
Valentin hitting second and playing right.
Gwreck May 24 2006 07:00 PM |
Nady available to pinch-hit.
Gwreck May 24 2006 07:08 PM |
Cole Hamels, originally scheduled to start for Philly tonight was DLed with a strained shoulder.
Zvon May 24 2006 07:09 PM |
I have a hangover from drinking to much baseball last night.
Zvon May 24 2006 07:10 PM |
WOW! I did not know this.
OlerudOwned May 24 2006 07:13 PM |
Blue caps again. Nice.
Gwreck May 24 2006 07:15 PM |
Important note: Alay Soler wearing # 59 (rather than the listed 43).
ScarletKnight41 May 24 2006 07:16 PM |
Important note - Soler doesn't seem to be all that well acquainted with the strike zone.
Gwreck May 24 2006 07:19 PM |
Also of note is the Heath Bell has been temporarily recalled and according to Howie is "on his way to the park."
Zvon May 24 2006 07:20 PM |
Hes GOT TO settle down.
Zvon May 24 2006 07:22 PM |
He throws junk on a 3-2 pitch...wassupwidat?
OlerudOwned May 24 2006 07:23 PM |
Do a Bannister impression now.
Zvon May 24 2006 07:23 PM |
He walks the bases loaded with no outs.
Gwreck May 24 2006 07:23 PM |
This development is rather disturbing.
Johnny Dickshot May 24 2006 07:23 PM |
Uh...
Zvon May 24 2006 07:26 PM |
SHITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
ScarletKnight41 May 24 2006 07:26 PM |
3-0 Phillies without an out in the inning and runners on the corners.
OlerudOwned May 24 2006 07:26 PM |
Dammit woodward thats no way to get playing time.
Zvon May 24 2006 07:29 PM |
Gonzalez up in the pen.
Zvon May 24 2006 07:31 PM |
crap
Gwreck May 24 2006 07:31 PM |
...and then suddenly Soler figures out how to throw strikes. Strange.
Zvon May 24 2006 07:35 PM |
ScarletKnight41 May 24 2006 07:36 PM |
Vamos Carlos!
Gwreck May 24 2006 07:36 PM |
Beltran is En Fuego.
Zvon May 24 2006 07:41 PM |
Hell, we can get all those runs back here.
OlerudOwned May 24 2006 07:41 PM |
Considering the error, I'm actually kind of impressed by Soler's 1st. He calmed down and got out of the inning with a lot less damage than the could've been.
OlerudOwned May 24 2006 07:43 PM |
Poopies. Castro leaves 'em loaded.
Zvon May 24 2006 07:44 PM |
The guy had to be nervous. I feel for him but its time to buckle down and pitch like a MLB'r.
cooby May 24 2006 07:45 PM |
I was impressed too, and clapped. I think this inning will be better!
SteveJRogers May 24 2006 07:47 PM |
Late but here is a night time KaBoom Apple
SteveJRogers May 24 2006 07:49 PM |
Now gotta get that at night and in midst of being BRIGHTLY lit! Thats at its after finishing flashing
SteveJRogers May 24 2006 07:50 PM |
This of course is the afternoon game Apple
Zvon May 24 2006 07:52 PM |
Nice inning for Soler.
Gwreck May 24 2006 07:55 PM |
Lieber's only walked 5 guys this year before tonight (3 now with the walk to Woody). I think we can get him tonight.
Zvon May 24 2006 08:12 PM |
And he's up to 57 pitches. So yea--we can get back in this. He just set down Delgado with a nice K tho. Dont help him Mr Wright.
Zvon May 24 2006 08:13 PM |
ScarletKnight41 May 24 2006 08:14 PM |

David Wright!
Zvon May 24 2006 08:18 PM |
No-you say boom boom boom- we say wayoh!
Gwreck May 24 2006 08:18 PM |
Redemption time, Chris Woodward.
ScarletKnight41 May 24 2006 08:19 PM |
Woodward's RBI single ties the game, although Castro makes the third out of the inning at third base.
Zvon May 24 2006 08:19 PM |
Woody ties it with a baseknock. :)
Hillbilly May 24 2006 08:21 PM |
Soler settled in with a tie game to pitch in!
cooby May 24 2006 08:21 PM |
So that's how you spell wayoh
Johnny Dickshot May 24 2006 08:31 PM |
Soler = First Met to suit up in No. 59 since Ed Lynch in 1980.
OlerudOwned May 24 2006 08:32 PM |
Run run Reyes!
Zvon May 24 2006 08:33 PM |
I dont think the word double is in Reyes volcabulary anymore.
Hillbilly May 24 2006 08:33 PM |
One out triple - gotta mean a run
OlerudOwned May 24 2006 08:34 PM |
Valentin gets the run home, well hit ball there.
Zvon May 24 2006 08:34 PM |
Mets take the lead on the deeeeeeep sac fly off of Valentines bat.
seawolf17 May 24 2006 08:34 PM |
It's weird to see anyone numbered 59 in baseball. Kinda looks funny.
Hillbilly May 24 2006 08:35 PM |
That's what I'm talking about. Big leauge hitter should be able to hit a flyball.
TheOldMole May 24 2006 08:35 PM |
Jose Reyes = triple happiness.
Elster88 May 24 2006 08:36 PM Edited 1 time(s), most recently on May 24 2006 08:37 PM |
Like watching a thoroughbred run. I'm still bracing myself for the day his hamstring comes flying off.
OlerudOwned May 24 2006 08:37 PM |
Anywhere but dead center and that was out of there. Beltran is crushing the ball.
Zvon May 24 2006 08:38 PM |
Beltran has a real nice swing goin--
Elster88 May 24 2006 08:41 PM |
Only 2 of those runs were earned.
Zvon May 24 2006 08:42 PM |
Phils are helpin him out by swingin early and making some easy outs.
Gwreck May 24 2006 08:47 PM |
Lieber's at 98 pitches and probably gets lifted if the Phils get a runner on.
Johnny Dickshot May 24 2006 08:50 PM |
Soler looks like a major leaguer.
martin May 24 2006 08:55 PM |
i dont see any reason not to love soler. a little nerves early, fantastic since.
Hillbilly May 24 2006 08:55 PM |
Hey that was nice - crowd gets behind him and he gets the K. Welcome to the big leauges.
Gwreck May 24 2006 08:56 PM |
6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 4BB, 5 K, 102 pitches. Nice solid debut, welcome Alay Soler.
Zvon May 24 2006 08:56 PM |
NICE.
Rockin' Doc May 24 2006 08:56 PM |
Just sat down and read through the IGT. After an understandably shaky start, it sounds like Soler has settled down.
TransMonk May 24 2006 08:57 PM |
I like it, he seems to know how to pitch. Better outing than Lima/Gonzo/Maine ever gave.
Hillbilly May 24 2006 08:58 PM |
Hit for Soler or go back to the well? Smart money says PHer.
seawolf17 May 24 2006 08:58 PM |
Alay, Alay, AlayAlayAlay!
OlerudOwned May 24 2006 09:00 PM |
Leadoff hit for Gourd-o
Hillbilly May 24 2006 09:00 PM |
Matsui on deck. Woody trying to lay one down.
martin May 24 2006 09:01 PM |
soler looks much fatter than the photo i remember seeing here for so long. but i am not convinced being fat is not an advantage.
Hillbilly May 24 2006 09:01 PM |
Weak - K instead of a sac.
Zvon May 24 2006 09:04 PM |
Have you seen CC Sabiatha lately?
Gwreck May 24 2006 09:05 PM |
Apparently he lost 20 pounds between spring training and now.

I really do dislike Pat Burrell
Zvon May 24 2006 09:14 PM |
DAMN YOU BURRELL!
Gwreck May 24 2006 09:15 PM |
Fuck Burrell. x33
Hillbilly May 24 2006 09:15 PM |
No W for Soler. Do we hate Burrell or what?
Zvon May 24 2006 09:15 PM |
whoa-what a catch by Kaz.
Gwreck May 24 2006 09:16 PM |
Willie lookin smart by leaving him in the game at 2nd.
Hillbilly May 24 2006 09:17 PM |
So how long you staying up tonight?
OlerudOwned May 24 2006 09:18 PM |
Blech
Zvon May 24 2006 09:19 PM |
Yea, shame Soler will get no win, but he did his job well.
Hillbilly May 24 2006 09:22 PM |
Beltran has been our best hitter this year.
Zvon May 24 2006 09:23 PM |
come on Mr Wright.
OlerudOwned May 24 2006 09:23 PM |
Corners for Wright. Go David.
Hillbilly May 24 2006 09:23 PM |
He runs the bases well to 1st and 3rd!
OlerudOwned May 24 2006 09:25 PM |
2 strikes means nothing!
Zvon May 24 2006 09:26 PM |
YES!
Hillbilly May 24 2006 09:26 PM |
Lets keep this one going. I'm not feeling safe with a one run lead. Come on Cliff!

Rockin' Doc May 24 2006 09:35 PM Edited 1 time(s), most recently on May 24 2006 09:37 PM |
Castro gets plunked with a pitch to load the bases. Matsui with an opportunity to break the game open. Come on Kaz.
Willets Point May 24 2006 09:36 PM |
Did he get hit on the humerus? That's not funny!
Hillbilly May 24 2006 09:38 PM |
Damn! Franco leaves them loaded.
Rockin' Doc May 24 2006 09:39 PM |
Franco strikes out on three pitches.
Hillbilly May 24 2006 09:40 PM |
Heilman for the 8th.
Hillbilly May 24 2006 09:42 PM |
Speedy leadoff guy on...
Hillbilly May 24 2006 09:43 PM |
Phils give us an out by bunting.
Hillbilly May 24 2006 09:47 PM |
Nice inning for Heilman.
Gwreck May 24 2006 09:55 PM |
Sandman time.
Zvon May 24 2006 09:55 PM |
Its really nice to see Soler sitting next to Pedro on the bench and both having a laugh.
SteveJRogers May 24 2006 09:58 PM |
Sitting under the Mango tree and now the Mets are in first
Zvon May 24 2006 10:03 PM |

ScarletKnight41 May 24 2006 10:11 PM |
Whew!
metirish May 24 2006 10:13 PM |
Nuets for nothing but Soler looks like he has a clue.....I'm excited.
Willets Point May 24 2006 10:15 PM |
Winning 3 of the last 4 versus the closest (geographical) rivals has a nice feeling.
SteveJRogers May 24 2006 10:17 PM |
Well now Fatso and Fruitloops get to call essentially a "Day Off" for the Mets, as much as you can have of course in a late May game against the 5 back 2nd place team on a getaway afternoon game!
cooby May 24 2006 10:18 PM |
Put it in the books!
Edgy DC May 24 2006 10:21 PM |
I just put it in the books!
cooby May 24 2006 10:25 PM |
Neat thing about Soler, at least for me - watching that first inning, it was pretty apparent that he wasn't going to get out of it without giving up some runs, but yet I just had a feeling he was going to settle down. He really has a presence and I'm glad he got the opportunity to show that he can come out of adversity and keep his poise.

When asked Willie would not say weather Soler will get another start.....probably means nothing but I would think he will start again.
Edgy DC May 24 2006 11:11 PM |
Nineteen Fifty-Nine is the year Castro took power.
Nymr83 May 24 2006 11:13 PM |
I was there tonight (hence my absense in the IGT)
Frayed Knot May 24 2006 11:16 PM |
I thought about that. Seems odd for a 'tribute' considering he's an escapee, although maybe it's to signify the last year of a free Cuba - wasn't Castro's takeover on New Years 59/60?
Zvon May 24 2006 11:24 PM |
metirish May 25 2006 12:27 AM |
Kinda says it all about the rotation right now that Jeremi Gonzalez was warming in the bullpen tonight in the first inning, he's the starter Thursday.........amazing to me that we are 11 games over .500.
Edgy DC May 25 2006 08:03 AM |
Yeah, last year of "freedom" is what I meant. I didn't think Matsui's throw was that offline at all. More that Delgado was anchored in his stretch too early.
Rotblatt May 25 2006 08:18 AM |
I missed all the walks and the errors, and just caught Soler's final K in the bottom of the first. From where I sat, Soler looked solid. I was behind the plate and pretty high up, so I didn't get a good sense as to his breaking stuff, but he was throwing everything on any count and was getting strikes called and a decent number of swings and misses. His fastball topped out at 90, and he worked between 87 & 88 most of the game--a far cry from the promised 91-92 zone that he supposedly worked regularly in.
soupcan May 25 2006 09:37 AM |
Was at the game as well. Obnoxious Philly Phans (redundant?) all around me.
Elster88 May 25 2006 10:17 AM |
Nope it was Matsui's fault. Matsui sucks, didn't you know Edgy? You should go out of your way to make sure you bash Matsui, even when it's not justified.
Elster88 May 25 2006 02:51 PM |
Did anyone else see, and hear, Floyd cursing at the ump while looking the ump in the eye after the first pitch he took yesterday?
