How 'bout them Tigers?

The AL central leaders have won 7 games in a row and have the best winning percentage in MLB.

Are they for real? Are the Mets for real? Will I have marital discord come October?

I wish Leyland wanted the Mets job, Tigers and Mets in the WS sounds cool...

Not to overuse cliches, but it's about staying healthy -- Magglio, Kennry Rogers, etc.

They are for real though, I think. Pitching is solid, they've got hitters, and the Leyland factor can't be underrated. Pudge has even been volunteering to play 1B on his days off to keep his bat in the lineup.

Tigers-Mets would be a fantastic rivalry in my family, with my father being from Detroit.

I screamed for us to go hard after Leyland.
WWSB was the booby prize.

Now you got me thinking about Leyland's Pirates kicking the Mets ass on a routine basis. Ugly memories.

I thought Vic was a big fan of boobies.

No, that's me you're thinking of.

Five starters with an ERA under 4 will get it done, especially in the AL. Two guys who can close won't hurt you either, especially if you wind up with a lot of save ops.

Lots of young talent gelling at the same time too, plus the Tigers invested in quality vets, unlike other teams who've struggled in recent years (KC and Pitt come to mind). Having a proven winner managing is the icing on the cake. I say they're for real.

They have some tough competition though with the World Champs and a young, talented Indians team in their division. I wonder which of those three teams will make it to the playoffs.

Still looking for real, for now.

NYT article tells us how the Tiggers are doing it. Minaya and Randolph get a shout out. (Arcticle courtesy of my better half).

No, Ms. Tiger, aka Mrs. Point.

Squid is by far my worse half.

Final: White Sox 7, Tigers 1.

I think they have owned the Tigers all year.

And the Tigers come back and win the next two.

Boston Globe sportswriters answer the question: Are the Tigers for Real?"

After skirting some stormy shoals, the Tigers seem to be righting their ship, at least against Chicago. Minnesota is still threatening. Maybe the best division race this season.

I don't think there's any "maybe" about it.

You're right. I use "maybe" too often in situations when there's really no doubt.

Two teams from the AL Central indeed made the playoffs, but the Twins weren't even on my radar back then.

Been away for a few days without access to a computer. Doing some catch up reading through the threads. I wanted to take this opportunity to state that I love the Tigers!
