CPF acronyms

Vic Sage

we used to have a "dictionary" of our unique terms, abbreviations, acronyms and phrases. Or was that on the MOFO?

I've seen 3 terms i initiated used by others ... WWSB and TiTTS, plus someone shortened my phrase "big hairy moose cock" to "bhmc", which means it became ubiqitous enough to be understood as an abbreviation.

and Jonny just resurrected his MASATO.

i'd like to see a new list of definitions posted (or a resurrection and editing of the old list) so "newbies" can know what we're talking about.

WATP - Wild Ass Trade Proposal
Used to acknowledge that the trade you've heard about or are proposing is pretty unlikely to actually occur due to either:
- wild complexities: multiple teams, high # of players, serial trades (A & B for C & D, then package C & D w/E for ....) etc.
- or uneven compensation: and, oh yeah, maybe we'd have to t'row in a coupla prospects too

IGT: In Game Thread

MOFO: Mets Online Fan Forum (coined by A Boy Named Seo). Now known as NY Sports Day

KTE: Know Thy Enemy. An introduction to the team the Mets are about to face.

Triple Happiness: Mets win, Braves lose, MFY's lose.

MFY: Mother Fucking Yankees

(edited to remove WATP)

LOOSER - when Mike Hampton made his first appearance at Shea as a Rockie, a Mets fan held up a sign that said Hampton's a "LOOSER". The irony of this Mets fan being unable to spell correctly while calling someone else a loser is memorialized in the word being spelt 'looser' on the CPF to this day.

SC = Sarcastic Content
Assigned by the poster. We have not, to my knowledge, come to agreement on the official range of values yet (1-10 or 0-100).

Don't go implying that Mets fans are stoopid.

As the proud originator of "SC= " I can assure you the scale is 1-100.

I posted but did not define the following acronyms:

WWSB - the abbreviation of Wee Willie Small Balls", a pejorative nickname for Willie Randolph describing his managerial philosophy.

TiTTS - coined on the MOFO, i think, stands for the "Trade in Tomorrow Today Society" which, in recognition of the low rate of success of any team's "prospects" and the $$ advantage the Mets have as a big-market team, advocates the trading of prospects for established stars, trading in tomorrow's speculative production for today's actual production. It was formed, i think, in reaction to Edgy's HBO...

HBO - "home boys only", which advocated not trading any Mets at all, preferring to fail with homegrown talent rather than succeed with mercenaries.

Hat started when someone misspelled hate, and it just caught on and took on a life of its own. It's a way of saying that you really dislike something, but not enough to actually hate it.

RABBiT --- Researchers Against the Branding of Binary Terms.

When someone posts RMPL, I always read it initially as "Ruined My Pants Laughing" instead of its actual meaning of "Read More Post Less." I go thinking, "What's so funny?"

Hey, Irish, i could be wrong but I think these are more generally used internet abbreviations, rather than being CPF-based.

What i was hoping for is a compendium of CPF-specific terms.

"... NOW!!!!" was definitely adopted from the posts of 'SELL THE TEAM NOW!!!, a particularly unctous poster who used to show up only during or after Met losses to put up (no exaggeration!) 30 or 40 posts an hour essentially saying the same thing over and over again; whining and complaining how the the team stunk, how they were ruining his life, and how it was all Wilpon's fault and only an ownership coup d'etat would save us. He also had a Joe Benigno-like ability to reverse field in a heart-beat and complain about the opposite of whatever it was he was complaining about the day before.
Folks who liked his stuff (and there were plenty) adopted the "NOW!!!!" in admiration, while others did so in mocking derision.

The funny part about the whole thing looking back was that his (and others) idea of a white knight who would swoop in to buy out Wilpon and make the future bright and sunny for all Met fans: The Dolan clan and Cablevision

SCUBA and NAFTA are acronyms; CIA and FBI are not (they're just pricks).

Technically, yes, I think that's right.

ESPN or NAACP aren't really acronyms (they're initialisms), because when spoken, they aren't said as "ess-pin" or "naah-cip," you say "E-S-P-N."

Grrrrowwlll!!! That was not me!

I am a perfect speller, I'll have you know. I even took second place in a PA States spelling bee in Harrisburg once (my friend Ed took first place; alas, he is now in jail)

BIFL - Bunting Is For Losers

NTTAWWT - Not That There's Anything Wrong With That - generally used after commenting that some one is gay.

TiTTS - I can't believe you guys forgot about the Titts. Um, actually, I can't remember exactly what it stands for. Little help from Vic, our self proclaimed lover of TiTTs.
