David Wright in SI

I was excited to see a feature on David Wright in this week's issue of Sports Illustrated, and even more jazzed to see Franz Lidz byline.

They usually give Lidz lighthearted stories about oddballs, so I thought there might be some interesting stuff in there. But to be honest, this wasn't much more than the typical warmhearted He's Too Good To Be True! kinda piece that didn't include much us obsessive freaks didn't already know. Nice Walter Ioss Jr. portait tho.

From the article....seems Wright was trouble as a kid....

]

His childhood seems full of such stories of respectful behavior. Didn't young David ever do anything ... bad?

"Let me think," says his mother, Elisa. A long pause follows. "Once, in the high school cafeteria, another kid hit David with a French fry. David returned fire with a sandwich and struck the kid right upside the head."

"David got an in-school suspension," says Rhon. "I read him the riot act."

"You made that food fight sound like the worst thing that possibly could have happened," Elisa says.

Ya gotta remember that articles like these are basically to clue in the rest of the country to stuff that us locals and everyday nerds have already heard 20 times.

Bor-ing.

Nice full page picture of Wright but other than that, nothing to the article.
