The New York Post wrote: The Post has learned that Balbino Fuenmayor, a third baseman from Venezuela, was at Shea yesterday, and Minaya said he is slated to work out for the Mets today. The GM said Fuenmayor was 16 years old. One major-league team executive said Fuenmayor is a "high-profile player who a lot of teams are on currently." A lot of teams are on him? That's a funny way of putting it. Great baseball name.

Throwing big bucks at very young but high-ceiling, 'toolsy' Latin teenagers is going to become a hallmark of the Minaya administration I suspect. The Yanx used this strategy for a spell in the mid/late '90s but have scaled back a bit after finding it a very expensive way of mining for talent.

We're getting away from discussing the impending arrival of Bal-BEEEEEEE-no Foo-en-MAY-or!. What I know. The guy also plays outfield, at least he did in this game. That may be his only at-bat of the year with that team.
