The Mets made their third trade for pitching in three days, sending right-hander Jeremi Gonzalez to the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday for reliever Mike Adams.

Gonzalez was designated for assignment after pitching six innings in a 5-3 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday. He had a 7.71 ERA in three starts with the Mets, and is expected to join the Brewers on Sunday.

Adams had an 11.57 ERA in two games with the Brewers. He had been pitching for Triple-A Nashville. The right-hander is 2-4 with a 3.54 ERA and one save in 61 career games.

Gonzalez is 26-33 with a 4.92 ERA in 109 games.

The Mets made their first move to bolster an injury-depleted staff on Wednesday, acquiring veteran right-hander Orlando Hernandez from Arizona for reliever Jorge Julio.

New York got left-hander Dave Williams from the Cincinnati Reds for minor leaguer Robert Manuel on Thursday.

What's up with this trend of Omar aquiring American-born guys? Is he trying to tap into New York City's American demographic?

Okay, not really.

Adams started as their closer last year before something (inability or injury) got the best of him and Turnbow took over. Maybe it's a move to "stockpile", as Omar says, the bully with warm bodies in case neither El Duque or Williams or whoever else doesn't work and Heilman has to be moved out.

Hi I'm Mike Adams.

Brewer fan here....

Adams was one of our most solid relief pitchers in his first year (2004) and was the front runner to be our closer in 2005. Derrick Turnbow eventually won out and it was basically all downhill from there for Mike. He struggled with injuries last year after being sent to AAA Nashville and posted a 5.75 ERA 1.31 WHIP. He's shown improvement in AAA this season (3.35 ERA) but for some reason was always passed up by Doug Melvin when we were looking to add new members to our "revolving door" bullpen. It seems that upper management may have something against this guy since he always seemed to get the shaft in Milwaukee when it came to promotions etc..

Just thought you guys may like to see what a Brewer fan had to say about this guy, since I'm guessing no ones even heard of him until now. Here's a link to his player profile at Brewerfan.net.

Thanks Joe, I've been to that Brewer site quite a few times, it's excellent.

Thanks Joe for the tip. Love that site.

No problem...

Thanks for the heads up on this site MetIrish. I remember during one of the Mets series you made a few posts over at BF.net and mentioned this site. You even (indirectly) called me out for not listing this site in our Fan Site Links thread. You'll be happy to know that I added it. :) I've gotta say though, this site is more fun to read than other Mets sites I've seen since it isn't just a bunch of fans either yelling to DFA the entire team or claiming they're all HOF'ers.

thanks Joe!

I like this move for two reasons:
1) it keeps Gonzalez (who i didnt really like) out of the rotation (i'd have killed willie/omar if he supplanted Soler or Bannister in the longterm.)
2) if Adams sucks we lost nothing, if Adams is good it's more pressure to put Heilman in the rotation.

Omar is loading up on lefties.

OE...Admas is right handed....the guys in the SNY studio said he was a leftie.

The Brews have had almost as much trouble, if not more, as the Mets in rounding out the rotation. At least with us, it's been the back end. They've gotten very little from Ben Sheets so far. Jeremi should get another chance to speak up before long.

Thanks for visiting, JoeH.

Sheets can't stay off the DL and has been one of the huge disappointments on my main fantasy team this year (read: the league for $$)

Gonzalez, btw, didn't completely suck -- he is what he is -- a short-term get-by guy. Don't expect a whole lotta innings, be sure his mates wear their hitting shoes, and you won't be embarrassed most nights.

No idea what must be wrong with Mike Adams, other than his resembling Barbaro. The Mets beat up on him once in 2004, I see... That Omar got something for Gonzalez is a very small coup.

Hi JoeH, I just visited your fair city during the recent Mets-Brewers series. Milwaukeeans were very good to me and I enjoyed the ballpark. I also won $3 off some Brewers fans in the sausage race which I'm inordinately proud of.

Welcome Joe.

I was in Milwaukee in 2002, and I reiterate Willets' observation that the fans there were great to us. It's a lovely town.

That's just absolutely odd and perfect.

So was his description of Met fans wanting to release half the team and send the other half to Cooperstown.

If the Brewer fans who come by here are looking to read intelligent thoughts on the Mets, then I really hope they stay out of the Red Light District.

well that why we have the RLF, i'd hate to delete negative posts but its good to be able to shove them under the virtual rug.

This all reminds me of the Alvy Singer (Woody Allen) line from 'Annie Hall':
'Don't you see the rest of the country looks upon New York like we're left-wing, communist, Jewish, homosexual pornographers? I think of us that way sometimes and I live here.'
