Vic - shall you and I cancel each other out again like we did in the first round?

Edgy - you have Emaline twice, and you forgot Jackson Cannery.

"Jackson Cannery"vs."Jungle Love" Ben Folds Five
"Uncle Walter"vs."Swingtown" Ben Folds Five
"Emaline"vs."Rock N' Me" tie

Ben Folds Five 2.5
Steve Miller Band 0.5

Jungle Love and Swingtown (especially the former) are two of the most glaring examples of where the SMB went way wrong.

"Jackson Cannery"vs."Jungle Love"
-- Tie. I like Jackson Cannery OK and think it's a good first song on an album. Jungle Love is Jungle Love.

"Uncle Walter"vs."Swingtown"
-- I find 'Uncle Walter' about as irritating as the subject is to the singer. I also think Ben Folds is clever enough to have done this purposefully -- the question remaining was whether he had an irritating melody for which he fashioned lyrics about an irritated guy; or whether he had a story about an irritating guy first then wrote a melody to match. Either way this song gives me a headache, and I can't believe there's now been 13 BFF songs chosen in this contest and "Alice Childress" still ain't one of them. Steve wins.

"Emaline"vs."Rock N' Me"
--Steve.

SMB 2.5, BFF 0.5

"Jackson Cannery"vs."Jungle Love" - SMB - Like Jackson Canary pretty well, but I just have too many fond high school memories tied up in "Jungle Love."
"Uncle Walter"vs."Swingtown" - SMB
"Emaline"vs."Rock N' Me" - SMB

Steve Miller Band 3 Ben Folds Five 0 - Amazing to me that this battle went into an overtime and through 13 Ben Folds Five songs, yet Scarlet refused to throw a "Brick" at Steve Miller.

How long do time breakers go?

soupcan
May 24 2006 10:53 AM

As long as it takes for the Steve Miller Band to win.

I guess we never settled that but I could go for either the same 48 hour period or a 24 hour period to enhance the "sudden death" aspect.

Makes you wonder why they bothered going for Chapter Three:

"Jackson Cannery" vs. "Jungle Love"
I go to the two-song juke box and I have to choose between these two songs, I choose "Jungle Love" because it's been a while. But, once I do, it'll be once again done, and I'd probably play "Jackson Cannery" the next three times. Tie.

"Uncle Walter" vs. "Swingtown"
SMB. "Walter" sounds like it comes from a bad family musical.

"Emaline" vs. "Rock N' Me"
SMB. That eight-note pronunciation of Emmie's name just isn't something I can listen to a whole lot.

I think the Five is OK, though I hate that they covered "Video Killed the Radio Star" before the world heard the spectacular cover that I've recorded in my head. SMB wins 2.5-.5 with the soundtrack from my 13th birthday party.

While youse folks were wasting time watching baseball, the Steve Miller Band snuck across the finsih line with an 18.5-14.5 victorino. In his graciousness, Vic bought Scarlet a crate of papaya.

Congratulations Vic - it was a closer battle than I expected.

by going with SMBs later pop stuff over their earlier r&b stuff, i was pandering for votes.

i feel unclean now. the victory tastes pyrhhic somehow. tainted.

i apologize to chuck and others who were rightly offended by my lack of integrity.

BUT I WON! I WON!
YEAH ME!
