I just realized these guys haven't entered this game yet, and they need to be up there. So let's get it on.

Higher Ground
Breaking The Girl
Suck My Kiss
Give It Away
Under The Bridge
Love Rollercoaster
Soul To Squeeze
Californication
By The Way
Can't Stop

wow, you're right, a forgotten powerhouse

Powerhouse? This must be a new definition of the term that I wasn't familiar with.

The Kinks join battle with:

You Really Got Me
All Day and All of the Night
Stop Your Sobbing
Village Green Preservation Society
Sunny Afternoon
Victoria
Lola
Low Budget
Attitude
Celluloid Heroes

If I get a vote, it's 10-0 Kinks.

Interesting Red Hot Chili Peppers Fact: Although Mother's Milk is considered to be one of their best albums (many would say their best), the Peppers regrettably tend not to perform songs from this album anymore, supposedly due to John Frusciante's no longer liking how he played back then.
Interesting Kinks "Fact": There's a theory out there. If you have three or more brothers in a band — the Wilsons, the Jacksons, the Hansons — they get along peachie. But if you have two — the Knopflers, the Gallaghers, and, of course, the Davieses — there will be a constant struggle for authority that will lead to extended misery, cancelled tours, boozing, stage conflicts, and perhaps one of the brothers leaving.

At any price, the conflicts of the Davies brothers are legendary. Here’s a favorite and it’s probably apocryphal. During a tour in the eighties, Dave was abusive to his guitar technician, constantly screaming at him to manipulate his works to get that definitive Davies “You Really Got Me” crunch. When the tech said, “Look, we’ve prepared this checklist and I’ve covered every item,” Davies up and slugged him. The guy naturally quit.

Ray, trying to keep the tour going, took the guy out for a nice meal and tried to apologize. “Look,” he said, “this is a band and a band is a family. Lord knows, Dave drives me crazy, but at the end of the day, families put these things behind them and move on.”

The guy replied that Dave was actually not his family, it was an unprofessional situation, and he was miserable working for him. Long story short, Ray up and slugged him also.

"Higher Ground" vs. "You Really Got Me" Kinks
"Breaking The Girl" vs. "All Day and All of the Night" Kinks
"Suck My Kiss" vs. "Stop Your Sobbing" RHCP (far better Kinks songs out there)
"Give It Away" vs. "Village Green Preservation Society" Kinks
"Under The Bridge" vs. "Sunny Afternoon" Kinks (good matchup)
"Love Rollercoaster" vs. "Victoria" Kinks
"Soul To Squeeze" vs. "Lola" Kinks
"Californication" vs. "Low Budget" Kinks ('nother good matchup)
"By The Way" vs. "Attitude" tie
"Can't Stop" vs. "Celluloid Heroes" Kinks

Kinks 8.5
Red Hot Chili Peppers 1.5

RHCP would beat a lot of bands on the BLC in my book but the Kinks rule.

"Higher Ground" vs. "You Really Got Me"
--Great cover effort by the Peppers.

"Breaking The Girl" vs. "All Day and All of the Night"
--I disagree with WP here – I think ADAAOTN is better than YRGM in many ways. Sure its similar but I think the progression is just more exciting. Not into these midtempo minor-key songs by the Peppers. Kinks.

"Suck My Kiss" vs. "Stop Your Sobbing"
--Kinks

"Give It Away" vs. "Village Green Preservation Society"
Krusty: Now boys, the network has a problem with some of your lyrics. Do you mind changing them for the show?
Anthony: Forget you, clown!
Chad: Yeah, our lyrics are like our children, man. No way.
Krusty: Well okay, but here where it says, "What I got you gotta get and put it in ya," how about just, "What I'd like is I'd like to hug and kiss ya."
Flea: Wow! That's much better!
Arik: Everyone can enjoy that!

Narrow victory for the Chili Peppers…

"Under The Bridge" vs. "Sunny Afternoon"
--Kinks

"Love Rollercoaster" vs. "Victoria"
--Kinks. Original ‘Rollercoaster’ rocks tho.

"Soul To Squeeze" vs. "Lola"
--I think ‘Soul’ is a pretty boring choice. Kinks win.

"Californication" vs. "Low Budget"
--Chili Peppers.

"By The Way" vs. "Attitude"
--Two ‘eh’ entries – of ‘new’ Kinks you ought not overlook the rollicking ‘Do it Again’ (love that one) or even ‘Living on a Thin Line’ ‘Destroyer’ ‘Catch Me Now’ or ‘Come Dancing.’ I’ll give this one to RHCP but don't really wanna

"Can't Stop" vs. "Celluloid Heroes"
--Kinks

Kinks 6, RHCP 4 (edited to throw the first inning in RHCP's column).

I'm going to go ahead and disagree with Dickshot.

"Higher Ground" vs. "You Really Got Me"
Two wonderful tracks here. I’ll throw it to the Kinks because they wrote it.

"Breaking The Girl" vs. "All Day and All of the Night"
“Breaking the Girl” is Beatleriffic. It’s got “Girl” in there as well as “Hide Your Love Away” and other good stuff. The morality comes out ambiguously, but “ADaAotN” is the Kinks going right back to the same well. RHCP win here.

"Suck My Kiss" vs. "Stop Your Sobbing"
The Pretenders cover of “Stop Your Sobbing” is better, but “Suck My Kiss” is what happened to the Peppers after they became a brand name and started producing songs that sounded like a band like them should produce, if’n you get my meaning. Kinks.

"Give It Away" vs. "Village Green Preservation Society"
Howcomeeverybodywannakeepitlkeakaisa? RHCP

"Under The Bridge" vs. "Sunny Afternoon"
Drabby Daivies beats off-key Keidis. Kinks.

"Love Rollercoaster" vs. "Victoria"
“Victoria” rocks a lot. Kinks.

"Soul To Squeeze" vs. "Lola"
“Soul to Squeeze” is to “Under the Bridge” as “All Day and All of the Night” is to “You Really Got Me.” It’s a band that gets a hit and then rewrites it in order to get another. Kinks

"Californication" vs. "Low Budget"
Another Kinks song about the blahs against an Eagles song by the Chili Peppers. Uh, tie.

"By The Way" vs. "Attitude"
“By the Way” is better on the chorus. “Attitude” is better on the verses. But good rock ‘n’ roll beats good funk here. Sorry, flea, great bass on this. Kinks.

"Can't Stop" vs. "Celluloid Heroes"
“Can’t Stop” isn’t bad. The Peppers were played out for me at this point, though, and it never moved me. Kinks take it. “Dosed” is a pretty song from this RHCP record.

Kinks go, 7.5-2.5.

Kinks are Red Hot, Chili Peppers not so hot: 53.5-26.5, Kinks.
