I got sick of not getting my paid-for MLB.tv benefits on Sunday. Just about every Sunday game --- not to mention all games with the Nationals --- are blacked out from my service. Probably Orioles games also, come to think of it. So I signed up for their radio service so's'n I can listen while I watch the dots move around Gameday.

Turns I get a free three-month subscription to Sports Illustrated I don't really want.

  • You should receive your first issue within the next four weeks. We hope you enjoy Sports Illustrated!

  • Subscriber's Automatic Renewal Program:Your purchase included a 3 month subscription to Sports Illustrated. You should receive your first issue in 1-3 weeks. After your 3 months of SI (a $13.50 newsstand value) you authorize SI to charge your card in time to renew your SI subscription, without interruption, before the start of each new annual term unless you cancel. You may cancel at any time during your subscription, by contacting SI at www.sicustomerservice.com or 1-800-528-5000, and receive a full refund for all unmailed issues
So it's on me to cancel a service I never asked for.

So now, Ms. Edgy and I are looking around the house, and realizing there are probably three other magazines coming in that we aren't reading and we're being automatically renewed for.

Well, which is it??

I once enrolled in the History Book Club-- then tried to opt out. After 45 on hold, I transferred to the "suubscription departments" (for new customers) where my call was answered in 10 seconds-- then I asked them to cancel my subscription. Pretty sneaky, but totally necessary.
