Time the Mets won a Pedro game, this one could be a classic....
Edgy DC May 31 2006 07:26 PM |
Throw beat the runner, but Beltran might have gotten his arm in there.

Pedro gets out of it with help by a gold glove play by Valentin - who is really growing on me.
Edgy DC May 31 2006 07:36 PM |
Pedro:

Zvon May 31 2006 07:38 PM |
Valentins great play bails out Milledge.
Edgy DC May 31 2006 07:38 PM |
I think I've seen enough of Eric Byrnes.
Edgy DC May 31 2006 07:47 PM |

Career vs Mets, through 2 AB today: 8-27 (.296), 4 HR (all solo HR), 5 RBI. Not great, but not bad for a small sample size. Obviously he's kicked our ass this series.
Edgy DC May 31 2006 07:49 PM |
Good interview with Guy Conti. Too bad they missed the fact that Pedro was making a mockery of all things Diamondback.

Who is this Jose Valentin, and what did he do with the Jose Valentin who started the season?
edit: I can't figure out why my html sucks here.
Nymr83 May 31 2006 08:02 PM |
whatever he did with the old valentin i hope its permanent.
Edgy DC May 31 2006 08:06 PM |
Milledge catching two hard liners and using both hands.
Zvon May 31 2006 08:14 PM |
Good thing too. Mets get a lead off single but cant capitalize. NICE catch by Cliffy.
Zvon May 31 2006 08:28 PM |
What a throw by the rook!
Zvon May 31 2006 08:42 PM |
What a pitching dual we have here, as advertised.
Edgy DC May 31 2006 08:57 PM |
Diamondbacks blink first, pinch-hitting for Webb with DeVanon.
Edgy DC May 31 2006 08:58 PM |
I mean, yay, as a Met fan, but boo as a ball fan.
Zvon May 31 2006 08:58 PM |
They pinch hit for Webb in the 8th--good.
Edgy DC May 31 2006 09:01 PM |
I said I've seen enough of Byrnes.

Zvon May 31 2006 09:03 PM |
Byrnes struck out swinging for Pedros' 8th K.
Edgy DC May 31 2006 09:09 PM |
Pitcher is going to his belt suspiciously.
Zvon May 31 2006 09:10 PM |
OK, and thank you Mr Franco.
Edgy DC May 31 2006 09:14 PM |
Guys, I said to rally.
Edgy DC May 31 2006 09:15 PM |
Dammit, Byrnes, I get it, Ok? You rock. I got the message.
Zvon May 31 2006 09:18 PM |
Id detain, search & Xray him. He might just be tryin to keep his pants up but I dont trust these snakes in the grass. Wags is coming in.
Willets Point May 31 2006 09:19 PM |
Wagner's in for a non-save situation. Expect a 5-run rally.
Edgy DC May 31 2006 09:20 PM |
Cohen is suggesting that Julio is the new closer for 'Zona.
Zvon May 31 2006 09:21 PM |
That only happens when we have a 4 run lead ;)
Willets Point May 31 2006 09:23 PM |
Damn! Was I right on the money or what?
Edgy DC May 31 2006 09:24 PM |

Rally songs --- I'm suckin' at them.
KC May 31 2006 09:32 PM |
That's one of my favorite Clash songs.
Zvon May 31 2006 09:33 PM |
Well, get out your extra inning collection. Wagner will pitch another inning. Lead off single for the Snakes. Lets get two!
Zvon May 31 2006 09:36 PM |
Green steals second--no throw by LoDuke...
Zvon May 31 2006 09:40 PM |
Whew, and Wagner get himself out of it.

Edgy DC May 31 2006 09:56 PM |
N! D! N! D! N! D!
Zvon May 31 2006 10:00 PM |
OK LoDuke--dont get tossed.
Edgy DC May 31 2006 10:02 PM |
Terrible call. His body rotated to dodge the pitch. His bat went around with the body, not swinging.
Zvon May 31 2006 10:02 PM |
OK Beltran, dont be hurt.
Edgy DC May 31 2006 10:03 PM |
Carlos, please get up.
Edgy DC May 31 2006 10:06 PM |
He's up and...
Zvon May 31 2006 10:06 PM |
Damn, Medders breaks one off and Ks Carlos.

What's the scouting report on this Julio guy, anybody?
Zvon May 31 2006 10:14 PM |
wow---we get to face Julio.
Zvon May 31 2006 10:16 PM |
the scouting report says to effectively negate the "ex-team factor" with Julio and you can get to him.
Zvon May 31 2006 10:19 PM |
I didnt hear any boos for Julio there and now's the time they should be booin him.
cooby May 31 2006 10:20 PM |
Boooooo
Zvon May 31 2006 10:20 PM |
there ya go :)
Gwreck May 31 2006 10:22 PM |
And then they pinch hit for him. Dammit.
Zvon May 31 2006 10:24 PM |
Councell with a 2 out double.
Zvon May 31 2006 10:25 PM |
Late boooos are acceptable.
Edgy DC May 31 2006 10:25 PM |
Are we into the team record book yet? We're through being cool!
Gwreck May 31 2006 10:28 PM |
Glavine to pinch-hit?
Zvon May 31 2006 10:28 PM |
LEAD OFF DOUBLE FOR VAL!
Edgy DC May 31 2006 10:29 PM |
Jose knows his Devo.
Gwreck May 31 2006 10:29 PM |
Hmm, strange. Figured he'd bunt and try for the "any ball to the OF wins it."
Frayed Knot May 31 2006 10:29 PM |
I would have gone to Glavine to bunt.
Edgy DC May 31 2006 10:29 PM |
Oh, right...
Zvon May 31 2006 10:30 PM |
Castro weakly grounds out---but Valentin goes the third.
Gwreck May 31 2006 10:30 PM |
Alright, same effect. Endy Chavez as hero seems about right, especially with some good PH appearances the past 2 games.
Edgy DC May 31 2006 10:31 PM |
Let's!
Zvon May 31 2006 10:31 PM |
CHAVEZ WINS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edgy DC May 31 2006 10:35 PM |
It's only 10:30 though. Typical bedtime for a nine inning game featuring Trax.
TheOldMole May 31 2006 10:37 PM |
I wonder what the record is for most innings played in a 162-game season.
Zvon May 31 2006 10:38 PM |
Another extra inning one run win.
cooby May 31 2006 10:38 PM |
Too bad they can't retroactive it to Pedro
Zvon May 31 2006 10:43 PM |
......really.
Zvon May 31 2006 10:46 PM |
Milledges' throw-pretty big in retrospect.

Two suggested answers to that: First, starting pitchers stayed in longer back then, and relief pitchers were often asked to go three innings or even more. So, like the Mets tonight, you could go quite a few innings without getting deep into your bullpen. Whereas the norm now is what Arizona did tonight--six pitchers in 12 1/3 innings. And second, there were fewer runs scored then. If neither team can score, the game can go on an awfully long time.

And I think that Pedro, while clearly a very special human being, is emblematic of this team.
Edgy DC May 31 2006 11:17 PM |
And Millege provided sparkling defense thereafter.
Johnny Dickshot May 31 2006 11:34 PM |
What a fantastic game! Wow.

Reyes throwing behind the dancing runner was kewl also. Was Valentin the first Met runner to reach third?
Frayed Knot Jun 01 2006 12:08 AM |

Bullet of cool? Or gay icon going too far?
Elster88 Jun 01 2006 10:20 AM |
Agreed. I didn't like that play. Didn't the next batter walk anyways?
Johnny Dickshot Jun 01 2006 10:26 AM |
Unless that play was executed flawlessly, we're in deep doodoo. That said, it was perfect, so I got no complaints.
soupcan Jun 01 2006 10:33 AM |
Green was safe on that play. Metsies got lucky.
Elster88 Jun 01 2006 10:35 AM |
I had forgotten that.
MFS62 Jun 01 2006 10:38 AM |
About Lastings' throw.
Edgy DC Jun 01 2006 10:43 AM |
Green looked out to me.
soupcan Jun 01 2006 10:46 AM |
Looked safe to me but the throw beat him so it was Green's fault he was out not the ump's.
Centerfield Jun 01 2006 11:54 AM |
It's not often that an IGT reaches the 8th inning on the first page, then continues on for another 5.
Frayed Knot Jun 01 2006 01:06 PM |
"Green was safe on that play. Metsies got lucky."
Frayed Knot Jun 01 2006 11:21 PM |
