The Ultimate Fate of Victor Diaz

I'm a little puzzled as the Mets recently obtained three pitchers of varying levels of modest ability.

(1) Why not pool those chips and acquire one better pitcher. (Or a better bet.) I supoort redundancy, but when Bannister and Maine presumably return and Pelfrey progresses, they'll have some redundancy, what they're looking for is Mr. Right Now.

(2) Why not include Victor Diaz in the package in an attempt at an upgrade? I was thinking last night who would get callups if each Met got hurt (interesting side thread there) and I realized there wasn't a lot of room for Diaz in the Mets plans. Now, Lastings Milledge bypassing him in the most recent callup really suggests there's little place for him --- considering Diaz has a similar skill set to Nady.

He's been doing poorly at Norfolk, hasn't he? Maybe it would be better to wait for him to snap out of his slump and trade him when his value is higher. (I imagine that different GM's weight the importance of recent production differently, but it's surely better to sell high than low.)

Good point. It would seem there are enough chips there to bring in someone who could fit in towards the front end of the rotation.
