I believe this is the first time the Mets have ever faced Lowe. Only the 2nd Benson Bunch pitcher we've faced this year.

I was bored and decided to see if Willy Aybar was a brother to former Met Manny Aybar, although both were born in Bani ,Dominican Republic I never could find out if they are related, Willy has a younger brother in hte Angels system.

Wow, I thought I knew the UMDB backwards and forwards but didn't know that feature existed.

I hereby amend my previous statement to "first time the Mets have faced Lowe as a starter."

Any word on why Reyes is out?

Pedro has given up too many HRs this year.

Zvon
Jun 06 2006 10:24 PM

Nomahhh greets his old teamate Pedro with a 2 run homer.
Martinez is givin up alotta gophers this season.

Zvon
Jun 06 2006 10:32 PM

Back to back singles by Wright and Cliffy to lead off the 2nd and--
Valentin doubles in Wright and--

shit--Floyd is hurt.

Zvon
Jun 06 2006 10:33 PM

Looks like he turned his ankle pretty bad running to 3rd.
OUCH!

Chavez in for Floyd.

Nymr83
Jun 06 2006 10:37 PM

it's 2-2 on the milledge SF.
I hope Floyd is ok

Nymr83
Jun 06 2006 11:14 PM

Beltran with a diving catch....and he's hurting!

Gwreck
Jun 06 2006 11:14 PM

Appreciate the effort, but Carlos, you can't get hurt! We don't have anymore outfielders!

Nymr83
Jun 06 2006 11:16 PM

Beltran will stay in the game, thank god with Reyes/Floyd hurt

Gwreck
Jun 06 2006 11:18 PM

Defensively, we wouldn't really hurt that badly if Chavez was in center, Valentin in left and Matsui at second.

Offensively, it'd suck. And no bench.

The Big O
Jun 06 2006 11:20 PM

Crazy pitch counts here. Both Lowe & Dro are in the mid-60s after 3.

Nymr83
Jun 06 2006 11:21 PM

You'll be alone the rest of the way, as I'll be listening to the rest of this game as i fall asleep...

Elster88
Jun 06 2006 11:22 PM

*gulp*

When does Nady get back? Victor Diaz getting another shot?

Elster88
Jun 06 2006 11:27 PM

Showing the reply of Floyd getting hurt, he hit a dark patch of dirt as he was slowing up which caused him to twist his ankle. Must've been a divot.

Some good news from the Mets clubhouse: Negative X-rays for both Reyes and Floyd, they are listed as both having sprains, and are both day-to-day.

My question: So they have an X-ray machine back there?

Elster88
Jun 06 2006 11:28 PM

Ball off the wall for a double will clear the pitcher.

Beltran slowed up and watched it go over his head. I think he could have caught that. I think he should have caught that.

Pedro 3-0 to the pitcher. Not on his game today.

Gwreck
Jun 06 2006 11:30 PM

With 2 outs and a runner on, you shouldn't be pitching around Lowe, Pedro. I see you retired him on a flyball to center, but it was a 3-1 count. Seriously, you've thrown 70+ pitches in the 4th inning, how about you challenge him by throwing strikes? Muchos gracias.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 06 2006 11:31 PM

Scores still knotted at 2 after 4 innings of play.

Goodnight all. These damn west coast road trips are too tiring. I'm calling it a night. I'll hope for news of another Mets win when I awake tomorrow morning.

I thought this game was gonna be rediculously fast.
Like over before midnight, with those 2 pitching.

Beltran didnt show any signs of bein hurt on that double by Martin.
Or on the pop by Lowe.
We certainly dont need to lose two outfielders in one night.

After 4 tied 2-2.
Each team has 4 hits-Pedro had 5 strikeouts.

LETS GET SOME RUNS FOR PEDRO GUYS!

Edgy DC
Jun 06 2006 11:39 PM

Vin Scully has told me as much personal stuff about Beltran as I learn in a full season from Met announcers.

(1) He used to own a monkey.
(2) He's friends with Chi Chi Rodriguez.
(3) He used to own a freakin' monkey.

Beltran: smart or dumb there?

Grady Little: what's the deal with going out to argue while wearing beach clothes?

Zvon
Jun 06 2006 11:46 PM

Awwwww

Beltran is hit by Wrights grounder! He's out.
Looked like a DP ball tho---so.....

Delgado and Wright on 1st and 2nd---

and are stranded there as Chavez grounds out.

Frayed Knot
Jun 06 2006 11:48 PM

I knew he was friends with Chi-Chi.

I suspect Grady was out there arguing that Beltran intentionally got hit with that grounder and therefore it should have been ruled a DP. The umps have the discretion to do that (otherwise runners would intentionally interfere all the time to make sure only 1 out was recorded) but Beltran clearly didn't plan that.
It was temporarily a good break for us but ultimately to no avail.

Bottom of the order doesn't mean we don't have room for a rally song, Billy Preston-style.

Between high pitch counts (both pitchers), injury delays, and now an ump mask problem, this game isn't moving too fast.

And Valentin's defense rears its ugly head.

DP ball to Wright, he throws to Valentin, Valentin just plain misses it.

.....twice.

Pedros done for the night.

Well, this is one that he just didnt pitch so good.

Bell comes in and lets another run through.
7-2 L.A.

Jun 07 2006 12:18 AM

Yep-uggleeeeeee.
Bases loaded wild pitch by Bell allows run # 8

Gwreck

Wow, that was absolutely terrible.

Jose, you best keep hitting because those errors were pretty costly.

Centerfield
Jun 07 2006 12:23 AM

Bags juiced. No one out, Delgado coming up. If there is a comeback, it will start here.

Gwreck
Jun 07 2006 12:28 AM

Bases loaded with no outs certainly is intriguing.

Edgy DC
Jun 07 2006 12:28 AM

And that works. Tying run in the hole with nobody out.

Zvon
Jun 07 2006 12:29 AM

Yes--Mets load the bases for Delgado.
Broxton walks 2.
And you know what walks do........

Gwreck
Jun 07 2006 12:30 AM

First 3 guys reach base off the new reliever. I'm hoping for some Grady Little magic here...

Centerfield
Jun 07 2006 12:33 AM

There's 1.

Edgy DC
Jun 07 2006 12:33 AM

Large pitch comin'

3-2.

Gwreck
Jun 07 2006 12:34 AM

Awww, Grady, I was just starting to like this Broxton guy.

Centerfield
Jun 07 2006 12:34 AM

I get the feeling those tack-on runs Heath Bell allowed are going to hurt.

Edgy DC
Jun 07 2006 12:34 AM

Single to right. 8-3. Everybody moves up one. Tying run on deck.

No out. Long way to go. Save sit, though.

This Saito guy seems pretty good too.

Tying run now at the plate.

3 walks this inning...and we know what walks do!

HAha-Wright walks for another run.

ComeON Chavez.

Now's your chance Jose.

Zvon
Jun 07 2006 12:43 AM

Chavie grounds into the force but another run crosses the plate.

Okay Valentin--you heard Edgy.
That double earlier was nice but this is make up time.

Centerfield
Jun 07 2006 12:44 AM

Fucking Valentin.

Gwreck
Jun 07 2006 12:44 AM

Ouch. That's gonna erase a lot of the good will he'd been building up.

Zvon
Jun 07 2006 12:45 AM

Damn--a non productive out as Val pops up to 1st.

Zvon
Jun 07 2006 12:48 AM

No hi5's for Milledge- Ks to end the rally.

Centerfield
Jun 07 2006 12:48 AM

Milledge swings at a ball 8 feet out of the strike zone. Horrible job by Valentin not even driving in the runner on 3rd. This game reminds me of Sunday. Ugly, winnable, and will likely result in a loss.

New Rule: No more throwing away potential double-play balls.

Zvon

Oliver gets em out of it.
Well, we got one more try.

Zvon
Jun 07 2006 01:25 AM

Gagne in to close it for the Dodgers.

Delgado and Wright strike out.
Met batters have struckout 6 times in a row-

Chavez pops out to center to make this night one of triple unhappiness :(

Reading through this IGT was not the best way to start my morning. No fault of the members, you can only work with the material the team provides. Last night pretty much sucked from start to finish.

I hope Reyes and Floyd don't miss much time. The line up suddenly looks a lot less formidable when Floyd, Reyes, and Nady are all out of action.

MFS62
Jun 07 2006 09:03 AM

I didn't get to see or hear the game.

Yeah, I realize that. Sorry.

A big part of the problem is that, since so many of us joined on the exact same day, small waves of us go through a level at the same time.

Future posters, God willing, will join more sporadically, while posting at more divergent rates.

Simmons attended yesterday's game

]1. As recently as five years ago, any local crazy enough to suggest that Nomar and Pedro would ever face each other on non-Boston teams would have been banned from WEEI, beaten up at Sully's Pub, thrown off the bleachers at Fenway or committed to a mental institution. They owned the town during 1998-2001; nobody else came close. Even now, ranking the greatest Boston athletes in terms of "how high their popularity climbed at their absolute apex," both guys easily crack the top 12 along with Orr, Bird, Williams, Havlicek, Cooz, Clemens, Yaz, Flutie, Brady and Big Papi. Now Pedro was facing Nomar in a freaking Mets-Dodgers game? What was next, Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman reuniting for "Weekend at Bernie's 3?"

apmorris
Jun 07 2006 05:50 PM

]Same for Dodger Stadium. Glance into the right-field bleachers and you can almost imagine the Gibson homer landing there. Glance past the center-field scoreboard during sunset and you can see the green hills melting into the darker sky, with nothing surrounding the stadium for miles and miles, almost like the real-life "Field of Dreams." What a place to see a ball game. Everyone should go there once.

from last night.
