Carlos: sitting out on the same day that reyes and Floyd are hurting because???

Can't always field the nine o'choice. Good teams win with B and C players.

Especially on the opposite coast. Root for a big night from Julio and Wood
and rinse repeat with some Endyledge.

Frayed Knot
Jun 07 2006 09:49 PM

Wants to give Delgado a break. Lefty going tonight while the upcoming Snakes have no southpaws on their staff.

Good teams, or rather smart managers, don't give their top hitters an offday when their other top hitters are day-to-day, when reyes/floyd are back in the lineup THEN you give an offday to delgado.

KC
Jun 07 2006 09:58 PM

Delgado can use a day off. When I become a baseball guy I'll start calling
MLB managers smart or dumb. (or big balled or wee-balled for that matter).

BEHIND THE BAG

That has to be a rug, right?

Gwreck

Probably also worthy of noting that it's not as if Carlos D. has been, you know, hitting much.

Gwreck
Jun 07 2006 10:14 PM

Anyone else using Gameday Audio tonight? (And is it working, if so?)

Sadly, the same could be said of most of the team.

Elster88
Jun 07 2006 10:17 PM

Carlos: "Looks like a line drive in the box score."

Gary tells us this is the 16th time this year that David has batted cleanup.

Elster88
Jun 07 2006 10:18 PM

Question: Who goes the other way better than Young David?

Elster88
Jun 07 2006 10:20 PM

Wow. No throw on the double steal. Carlos can run. Too bad Delgado hits between them, they could do that all year. (SC = 85)

Though it was two weak hits...Julio's was a broken bat seeing-eye single up the middle.

Props to Willie calling the double steal on an 0-1 count with the injured Beltran stealing 3rd, and then having Franco get a 2-RBI single. Major props.

Mets score twice.

True....if he called it. I seriously doubt that was called from the dugout.

Valentin with an RBI double and to third on throw - IS THIS THE METS?!

Or slide-bang.

First career trip, right?

After looking like crap on the previous pitch.

The Benson Bunch needs to have an intervention with Odalis Perez. Weren't the Mets supposed to be looking at him to plug the rotation?

Yancy Street Gang
Jun 07 2006 10:26 PM

I had decided that I was just going to watch the top of the first inning before going to bed, and I got to see the Mets score four runs.

Thanks guys!

GYC
Jun 07 2006 10:29 PM

Please don't tell me this is going to be like last night. Poor pitching on both sides = boring, stressful AL-ish baseball.

Elster88
Jun 07 2006 10:30 PM

Nomar's OCD routine at the plate doesn't really bother me.

I forgot Glavine is on short rest today. I think that he just doesn't know what to do with all this run support.

ScarletKnight41
Jun 07 2006 10:30 PM

Sure Tom - take the mound with a 4-0 lead and immediately cough up a homer.

Elster88
Jun 07 2006 10:31 PM

You know...with Gagne back...the Dodgers are pretty darn good team. I used to hate them in the days of Mike Scioscia.

Elster88
Jun 07 2006 10:32 PM

Milledge, Beltran, Chavez. Too bad we're not playing at a field like the Polo Grounds. That is one speedy motherjumping outfield.

Elster88
Jun 07 2006 10:33 PM

Excellent turn by Valentin.

Edit: On replay, it wasn't a hard one at all, the runner to second never got close.

OE: Yes, it's Ventura. Talking about his ankle transplant.

Gagne won't pitch for a few days

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Los Angeles Dodgers closer Eric Gagne will be shut down for a few days because of stiffness in his surgically repaired pitching elbow.

The 30-year-old right-hander earned his first save in nearly a year Tuesday night by striking out two in a perfect ninth inning in an 8-5 victory over the New York Mets, but said afterward he wasn't 100 percent.
__________________________________________________________

And his stuff looked sick last night. Glad if this is still close in the 9th we dont have to see him.

When I heard the mets had 5 runs in the first two innings I figured that would be all Glavine would need.
Baseball,---this is a wacky game.

Edgy DC
Jun 07 2006 11:47 PM

Heck yeah I'm surprised to see Glavine hit here.

Not that he can't hit, but...

Elster88
Jun 07 2006 11:50 PM

LaSorda was up in the booth. I didn't know that he wouldn't let Gibson get in the on-deck circle, because with a decoy in the on-deck circle he figured the A's would pitch around Mike Davis who was up before him.

'Course, that great baseball moment never should have happened.

Thats all for Glavine after walking Cruz.

His ERA at game start was 2.59.
He'll leave the mound with an ERA of 3.06.

I do hope we get him this win.

I dunno if anyone said it yet but that a big fat hairy win.

We scored like Fonzie with a makeshift lineup, survived subpar appearances from Glavine and Sanchez, and didn't give in despite nearly blowing it to a pretty good offensive opponent.

I fell asleep about halfway through this one and was convinced I'd awake this morning to only discover that Seo had bitched us up and the pitching wasn't tough enough to hold on.
