Felled by a stroke. The prognosis looks pretty bad.

He wasn't a very good umpire, at least during the second half of his career, and was one of the fools who lost his job over the foolish Richie Phillips gambit. I liked him anyhow. He cried like a baby when John McSherry died.

I was looking for a reference to that and found this 10-year-old atrticle about his struggles.

Are you sure you don't listen to talk radio?

Had the good fortune of attending a Duke basketball game in Durham several years ago. I was in the restroom heading out the door and he was coming in. He attended the weight loss clininc at Duke several times http://www.cfl.duke.edu/(bqztc545nojoyxrbit24oiz0)/dfc/home/ and he must have been "in residence" during that time. He was also commissioner of WING BOWL http://www.610wip.com/wingbowl/ in Philly, an annual hot wing eating competition.

If this is it for him, he sure seems to have enjoyed life.

I'd like to take this moment to say that I was not the Met fan who peed on Eric.

Goodbye, man.

I was a fan; I know he wasn't the best technical umpire in the world, but he was fun to watch. He had a lot of good stories in the old Ron Luciano books.

Too bad. Remember his presence well.
