Two great acts. The result will be determined by what songs go head to head.

The result should always be determined as such.

not necessarily.

There are some bands that are so much better (subjectively speaking) than the bands they are matched up against that the least of their 10 songs will still surpass the best of the other's top 10. In that case (which i've seen happen here more than once), song order is utterly irrelevant.

in this case, however, i'd agree that song order will likely determine the victor.

Well, I guess, but we don't even have one band's list.

What breaks the spirit of this is, "The Buggles don't even belong on the same field as Queen. I don't even know why I waste the keystrokes to write 10-0."

Queen may well be of another class entirely, but a worthy vote should take a look at the list to see if "Video Killed the Radio Star" matches up against "Theme from Flash Gordon."

I suspect some votes may come due to thinking such as, "I respect Yes four times as much as Duran Duran, therefore my vote is 8-2. I respect the Byrds somewhat and never heard of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, therefore I vote 10-0."

Don't know if that's true, just want to nip that in the bud. It's not about a ratio of respect, it's about punches landed in a ring of combat.

Which is why this whole thing is bunk; there are waaaaay too many factors involved that we have no control over. It is good for a lark, however.

Pinball Wizard vs. Boogie with Stu -- The Who
Baba O'reily vs. Rock n' Roll -- Have to call this a tie.
Won't Get Fooled Again -- Whole Lotta Love -- The Who by Pete Townsend's nose.
Can't Explain vs "Black Dog" -- Led Zep. One of their top against a good but not great Who song.
My Generation -- Stairway To Heaven. Extremely close. Maybe the best rock songs ever vs. one of the founding documents of rock. I'll give Led Zep a hair's edge.
Behind Blue Eyes vs. Misty Mountain Hop -- Led Zep. BBE is overrated, the weakest song on "Who's Next"
We're Not Gonna Take It vs The Immigrant Song -- The classic Who beats good but not great Led Zep.
Love Reign O'er Me vs. Houses of The Holy -- The Who
Magic Bus vs. Traveling Riverside Blues -- The Who, clearly
The Punk and the Godfather vs. Since I've Been Lovin You -- The Who

The Who, 7.5 vs 2.5 Better song choices (Communications Breakdown, Good Times Bad Times) would have helped Led Zep, but probably not enough to make a difference.

Interesting Fact:
The Who to release debut single
June 5, 2006

The Who are to release their first single in 23 years.

'Wire And Glass' --- which is about a teenage band finding fame via the Internet --- will be an 11-minute epic making it the longest single ever to enter the British charts.

Guitarist Pete Townsend said: "This new release is the first truly creative piece from The Who for nearly 25 years.

"I just grabbed at whatever came into my mind as I sat with pen and paper."

The legendary British rockers split in 1983 but reformed for Live Aid in 1985.

Townsend and singer Roger Daltrey have been touring ever since. (Ed: huh?)

Meanwhile, The Who are planning to make bootleg recordings of their own shows on their forthcoming European tour, in a bid to raise money for charity.

They will sell DVDs and CDs, and are also working on releasing podcasts and a webcast of an entire concert.

Townsend is urging major corporate sponsors to "get their heads out of their a**es" and back the initiative.

In a recent posting on his official website, he said: "I intend to bootleg Who shows myself and give the proceeds to charity.

"Why are we doing this? Because we f***ing well can. Will it make us look good? We don't give a f**k."

Interesting Fact:
When Led Zeppelin played the Knebworth Festival on April 8 and 9, 1979, they used the biggest PA (600,000 Watts) and the biggest lighting rig (200,000 Watts) ever used in Europe. They played to a combined audience of over 600,000 over the 2 days. (They were big, yo.) These were their only 2 concerts in England between 1975 and their final split after John Bonham's death.

I generally vote against the operatic Who songs, as they are too overblown out of context, but all four guys are dead on in "TPatG." Who.

The Who wins 6.5-3.5. I really went into this expecting to lean toward Zeppelin. Good matchup.

Led Zeppelin would have a different name but for The Who. 2 Who members turned the band down flat. The first couple of Who albums are not merely plagiarized Blues standards.
