NY Mets
The Big O Jun 14 2006 07:04 PM |
Orel just said Ryan Howard "may be the best young hitter in baseball". Psst, Bulldog ... other dugout.
Nymr83 Jun 14 2006 07:09 PM |
Pujols isn't "young" anymore?
Zvon Jun 14 2006 07:11 PM |
LoDuca doubles to Delucci.
GYC Jun 14 2006 07:13 PM |
Delgado doubles in the Mets 7th consecutive 1st-inning run. First time in 40+ innings Myers has allowed a 1st inning run.
GYC Jun 14 2006 07:13 PM |
Wright with an RBI single!

And Delgado knocks him in with a double to center.
Nymr83 Jun 14 2006 07:16 PM |
pounding the ball is fun.
Zvon Jun 14 2006 07:21 PM |
I think you have to call Myers their ace. He would be the one to play stopper. But you cant stop a steamroller with a peashooter.
Zvon Jun 14 2006 07:26 PM |
The Phils announcers sure do miss Richie Ashburn.
GYC Jun 14 2006 07:26 PM |
That was a nasty curve.
Zvon Jun 14 2006 07:30 PM |
ewww--that was a perfect fastball Myers Ks Milledge with.
Zvon Jun 14 2006 07:35 PM |
Another error by Phils 3rd baseman Bell loads em up.
Zvon Jun 14 2006 07:39 PM |
Reyes is unsettling Myers with his dance down the third baseline with the Delgado shift on.
Zvon Jun 14 2006 07:45 PM |
Ouch-
A Boy Named Seo Jun 14 2006 07:49 PM |
Ryan Howard is not the best, young baserunner in baseball.
TheOldMole Jun 14 2006 07:49 PM |
How bad are these guys, exactly? I've never seen such total self-destruction. Do the Mets intimidate them that much?
TransMonk Jun 14 2006 07:50 PM |
Phillies look like a AAA team tonight.
Zvon Jun 14 2006 07:50 PM |
WOW!
GYC Jun 14 2006 07:51 PM |
Kaboom for D.Wright!
Zvon Jun 14 2006 07:52 PM |

GYC Jun 14 2006 07:53 PM |
Rowand almost caught that. I would have been PISSED.

Cue circus music...
GYC Jun 14 2006 07:54 PM |
RBI single Milledge! 5-0 Mets!
Johnny Dickshot Jun 14 2006 07:55 PM |
Could this be any more demoralizing for the Phillies?

Rowand cant work his magic this time!
TransMonk Jun 14 2006 07:56 PM |
Rowand pulled up like he was scared of the wall.

Johnny Dickshot Jun 14 2006 07:57 PM |
Maybe they're trying to get Manuel fired.
Mr. Zero Jun 14 2006 07:58 PM |
Sure looks like they're trying to lose on purpose.
Zvon Jun 14 2006 07:58 PM |
And I cant believe that deep fly goes off Abreus glove!
A Boy Named Seo Jun 14 2006 07:58 PM |
What up with Abreu? He seems to freak out when he gets close to the wall. Moreso than most other guys. Anyone recall if he smacked into one sometime?
Johnny Dickshot Jun 14 2006 07:59 PM |
I'll never foprget that game, since it took place while Ms. Dickshot was butching it out in labor. I think she hurt worse.
Willets Point Jun 14 2006 08:07 PM |
There goes the no-hitter.
Elster88 Jun 14 2006 08:08 PM |
This park sucks.
Zvon Jun 14 2006 08:09 PM |
That pesky Ultley doubles.>:(
GYC Jun 14 2006 08:12 PM |
El Duque is imploding... And now it is raining. Fuck.

if you blow this lead you should never start a game in a met uniform again.
Zvon Jun 14 2006 08:13 PM |
He's been playing like that all season. That wall comes on you quick out there in right. Wait until you see a challanging wall ball to left- Burrell has the same ailment, and he'll be fun to watch. Abreu can hit tho, and usually does when the Phils are down. he knocks in Utley and--- it starts to rain. This game BETTER NOT end up like the one when the Mets were here last road trip. LoDuke throws one into center--one that Reyes should have handled and Abreu steals second.

Elster88 Jun 14 2006 08:17 PM |
Abreu is a weenie.
Zvon Jun 14 2006 08:19 PM |
And Delgado drives in Beltran with a single up what can only be considered the middle, the way they play him.
Nymr83 Jun 14 2006 08:25 PM |
fuckin shit the tarp is coming out.
GYC Jun 14 2006 08:26 PM |
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Zvon Jun 14 2006 08:26 PM |
Hernandez does not look long for this game.
ScarletKnight41 Jun 14 2006 08:26 PM |
We're in a rain delay :(
GYC Jun 14 2006 08:27 PM |
Nymr83 Jun 14 2006 08:28 PM |
get Oliver up, duque hasn't been sharp and we might as well use the rain to get him out of there.
Willets Point Jun 14 2006 08:29 PM |
It sure rains a lot in Philadelphia. It would've been nice if it was an official game and they called it with the Mets ahead.
Zvon Jun 14 2006 08:34 PM |
If the delay isnt that long-maybe stick with Hernandez and try to get afew more out of him.
Elster88 Jun 14 2006 08:34 PM |
Ed Kranepool on my TV. He was at David's golf torunament.
Nymr83 Jun 14 2006 08:37 PM |
i don't think you'd pull the tarp out if it was going to end that soon, it takes a few minutes to get on and 10 to get off, thats on top of the time its sitting there during the actual rain, i think the "minimum" rain delay is 30 minutes or so, at least i've never seen one shorter

looks like they all got hit by lightning. Nady went 2 for 4 with a double in his rehab start the other day. Floyds almost ready to return. Should be interesting to see whats gonna happen when they return, cuz they are gonna start and play, at least for a time. I wont even acknowledge the Cliffy trade talk. I personally would like to see Milledge up and on the bench, gellin with the team and being influenced on a major league level by the likes of Delgado, Beltran and Wright.
metirish Jun 14 2006 09:22 PM |
We are back , Oliver pitching for the Mets...
ScarletKnight41 Jun 14 2006 09:23 PM |
The tarp is off the field.

Johnny Dickshot Jun 14 2006 09:35 PM |
Manuel should keep walking, cuz he's probably going to be fired by the end of this series.
ScarletKnight41 Jun 14 2006 09:36 PM |
Jerry Manuel is thrown out for arguing balls and strikes.

Yeah if not at the end of this series then soon, he's the manager in some part because of Jim thome and the current GM didn't hire him so he's fukced.

This would really surprise me.

Coach Roy Turner, ladies and gents.
Edgy DC Jun 14 2006 09:44 PM |
Lame defensive boners and spacey baserunning mistakes pretty much characterized the Diamondbacks performance also. Getting outhit and outpitched is one thing, but the teams the Mets are running into are beating themselves as badly as the Mets are beating them.
Zvon Jun 14 2006 09:45 PM |

I've always thought Abreu to be a very indifferent outfielder ... or at least he can be one at times. And not just heading for the wall either. It just seems like he can lose interest at times, not charge balls well, take weird routes to fly balls, etc., last year's Gold Glove notwithstanding. Good player but something about that guy has always bugged me and I get the opinion that I wouldn't like him on my team despite all his obvious talent.

Zvon Jun 14 2006 10:10 PM |
Lead off double for Rowand.
Edgy DC Jun 14 2006 10:12 PM |
Rowand attempts to join the dumb baserunning parade, tagging at second and coming into third standing and nearly getting nailed on an off-line throw.
Frayed Knot Jun 14 2006 10:13 PM |
Good thing we don't see anymore of those 'sit in front of the plate and sweep tag' manuvers now that Piazza is gone.
Zvon Jun 14 2006 10:15 PM |
ewww- Rowand tags but Chavez makes it close with an excellent throw.
Zvon Jun 14 2006 10:23 PM |
Valentin hammers a lead off double to right.
Zvon Jun 14 2006 10:26 PM |
Can you believe Abreu does it again!???

ScarletKnight41 Jun 14 2006 10:27 PM |
That lack of hustle may have sealed the deal on Milledge going back to Norfolk for some seasoning once Nady comes off of the DL.

6 Phillies outs to go and a 6-run Mets lead.
Rockin' Doc Jun 14 2006 10:43 PM |
Damn, I didn't even know this game was on ESPN until last inning. I'm so accustomed to not seeing the Mets games unless they're playing the Braves or Cubs that I forgot to even check the listing or schedule.
TransMonk Jun 14 2006 10:49 PM |
Fish beat the Braves...again.
ScarletKnight41 Jun 14 2006 10:54 PM |
Thick Legged Heath Bell is coming in to pitch the 9th with a 6-run lead.
Zvon Jun 14 2006 11:01 PM |
A strike out wild pitch safe at first- wacky.
ScarletKnight41 Jun 14 2006 11:01 PM |
Milledge atones for his prior lack of hustle with a NICE catch. 2 outs to go!
Rockin' Doc Jun 14 2006 11:02 PM |
That's seven straight wins for the good guys! This is really getting to be fun.
Zvon Jun 14 2006 11:03 PM |

Odd and surprising note (and Ive seen my share of Phils games cuz they are on local TV here, and I find this hard to believe):
Frayed Knot Jun 14 2006 11:26 PM |
Y'see, that's part of my problem with Abreu defensively. He cruises back to balls (or in ... or over) rather than getting to the spot where they're going to be, and, because of that, justmisses stuff he should - or at least could - be getting to. Instead, no error is charged so there's no record to show that he played a lousy defensive RF.
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 08:49 AM |
When Milledge scored with the walkoff run on a short fly out to the outfield a couple weeks ago, I mentioned that he was looking over his shoulder the whole darn time. And if he had been tagged out that would've been the reason why.
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 08:55 AM |
Though, the idea that he should be sent down solely on the basis of that play is as silly as the idea that he should stay up because he hit well for the first two weeks he was here.

The kid's already getting snippy?
Edgy DC Jun 15 2006 09:40 AM |
I was buried on the bench of a Babe Ruth team and miserable as heck. We got into the playoffs by winning the second half title with a lousy 6-4 record. (We were 2-8 the first half, so our playoff spot was surprising.) Come the playoff game against the first-half champs, I catch a break because only 10 or 11 players show up and the creepy screaming manager who buried me is on vacation in sunny Florida. So I get a start in (where else?) right field and, in the sixth inning of a tie game, I drive a triple to right center, shocking my teammates who were sure I was a scrub. On the next play Don (E. Donald) Gessner --- a good kid who shouldn't have been starting in the infield over me, but he was the commissioner's son or something --- tapped out to the infield, and I scored the go-ahead run.
Johnny Dickshot Jun 15 2006 11:20 AM |
The physical resemblance is striking, too:

I'd bet he's a pretty good fielder. Looks like he has soft hands. Later
Edgy DC Jun 15 2006 12:14 PM |
E. Donald Gessner's name was actually name was actually Edward , but when you go running around a ballpark with an initial initial, you're lucky to walk away with the nickname "Elmo." I imagine G. Thomas Seaver's teammates did worse to him.
