IGT: Mets vs. Phillies 6/15 - Going for the Sweep

Mets:
MFS62 Jun 15 2006 12:17 PM |
Shit!
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 12:19 PM |
It didn't jinx them on Sunday.
MFS62 Jun 15 2006 12:23 PM |

I still am thinking in old Mets mode. When someone mentioned the word before the final game of a series, it always seemed the Mets would lose. I forgot it is a new era. Later
holychicken Jun 15 2006 12:27 PM |
Looks like I won't be getting any work done this afternoon.
Frayed Knot Jun 15 2006 12:37 PM |
Woody for Valentin isn't surprising; Marrero for Milledge somewhat is.
Johnny Dickshot Jun 15 2006 12:48 PM |
I'm certain. As certain as I am that WWSB will it explain it away by saying "I just wanted to give him a blow" and insist the punishment he's not handing out is not related to Milledge's loafing; and in fact, Milledge's loafing is yesterday's news and so why do you wanna write about that anyway.

I don't think its punishment. Lidle is a "crafty veteran" who has sometimes given the Mets fits. He might be too much for Lastings to handle. Looks like Willie is loading up the lineup with lefty batters. Cliff's apparently not ready to play yet, so Eli it is. Later
seawolf17 Jun 15 2006 12:53 PM |
Gotta figure Eli's going to play some during the DH days, so they probably want to get him some ABs.

I don't have a huge problem with Willie lying about punishing his guys. Is it really going to help Milledge to have his punishment announced on Sportscenter? Besides, on M&MD yesterday, Willie said he wanted to get Eli a start. BTW, your post reads like you were channeling someone else when you wrote it.
Hillbilly Jun 15 2006 12:54 PM |
Trachsel has been having a bad year. I have a feeling that his next 5 or so starts will determine his fate with this Mets team.
KC Jun 15 2006 12:54 PM |
I think punishment is a little strong. Willie said on the pre-game that he told
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 12:55 PM |
I guarantee you that that is not the case. Traxxxx is here for the rest of the year. Archive it as a prediction. To dump him and keep El Duque is the height of stupidity, shut outs in the desert nonwithstanding.
Hillbilly Jun 15 2006 01:00 PM |
No matter how he pitches? I mean if he returns to his career norms, sure he stays. OTOH, if he continues to struggle he'll lose his job to Bannister or Pelfrey.
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 01:01 PM Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Jun 15 2006 01:02 PM |
I guess not no matter how he pitches. I'm saying as long as he pitches reasonably close to career norms. If his ERA stays at 5 or below, I say he stays on the team. And if it stays that high, that means he's pitching just as poorly as he has been.
Edgy DC Jun 15 2006 01:02 PM |

"And the Mets are up 7-2 in the third, in a game that's remarkable because Willie Randloph is piss drunk and waving a loaded gun at his players. He may get criticized by the talk radio crowd for this tomorrow, but I say, hey, it's working. A lot of things haven't worked for the Mets the past five years and if Willie is getting them to play .800 ball by instilling in them a healthy respect for the game under threat from a snub-nose revolver, well, I think Omar should pat him on the back, say good job, and stay the heck out of his way. And... this is a real treat. Ralph Kiner is joining us in the booth! What do you say, Ralph?" "If you were slumping, or he didn't think you were playing heads-up ball, Leo Derocher used set your bed on fire when you were sleeping."
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 01:03 PM |
You owe me a soda.
Johnny Dickshot Jun 15 2006 01:04 PM |
I'm with the "these next 4 or 5 are crucial for Traxxxx" camp.
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 01:05 PM |
I think I'll start a Trachsel Watch Thread after today's game.
Hillbilly Jun 15 2006 01:12 PM |
yet another 1st inning run. All I can say is wow!
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 01:13 PM |
Didn't even get the radio set up yet.
seawolf17 Jun 15 2006 01:15 PM |
And the Mets score a first-inning run for the 783rd consecutive first inning. I love this team.
Hillbilly Jun 15 2006 01:19 PM |
Endy steals 3rd to get there with 1 out.
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 01:19 PM |
So why do guys like Marlon Anderson and Endy Chavez come here and play so well? They must be "New York Guys".
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 01:19 PM |
Was it a close play? Did he get a great jump? Did the catcher even throw? Why didn't Delgado follow him? Gameday doesn't have the details.
Gwreck Jun 15 2006 01:24 PM |
David Wright with the 3-run
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 01:24 PM |
I'm glad his homer came in the first inning today.
Hillbilly Jun 15 2006 01:25 PM |
OK Trax. Get ball throw strike you got a 4 run lead and a red hot offense.
MFS62 Jun 15 2006 01:27 PM |
I wonder if Lastings put his arm on Marrero's shoulder and said "Kid. You gotta' swing the bat."?
Hillbilly Jun 15 2006 01:28 PM |
I got to go get signatures. Chair, Dean, VP. They'll all get a Met update. See you in a half inning or so. Rollins flys to Reys on a 3-1 pitch. I would been wiggin if he walked.
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 01:28 PM |
Baseball is boring. What's happening in the World Cup?
Centerfield Jun 15 2006 01:29 PM |
Just a loud strike Steve. Don't let it rattle you. Throw strikes.
Rotblatt Jun 15 2006 01:31 PM |
Wow.
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 01:32 PM |
Is there anyone left at the ballpark?
Willets Point Jun 15 2006 01:34 PM |
England 0, Trinidad & Tobago 0 in the 73d minute. I didn't know we had a day game today. 3 World Cup matches and a Mets-Phillies game, why did I bother to go to work?
Yancy Street Gang Jun 15 2006 01:36 PM |
Wow, even when three teams are playing, nobody scores.
seawolf17 Jun 15 2006 01:37 PM |

That's because there are too many teams on the pitch; one team is confused because they don't have a goal to shoot at.

I've been noticing lately that this Burrel guy does pretty well against the Mets.

You obviously didn't see the Leo Durocher line in Edgy's post from page 1.
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 01:42 PM |
My fault. After the first inning I was thinking no-hitter.
MFS62 Jun 15 2006 01:45 PM |
I still would have voted for this one. BTW- I remember Leo the Lip. Edgy's line would have been funny if it weren't so in character for Leo to do something like that. Later

Best. IGT. Ever!

Centerfield Jun 15 2006 01:48 PM |
We have a ballgame.
seawolf17 Jun 15 2006 01:49 PM |
Who is this Burrell guy? This kid's a hitter.
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 01:49 PM |
Dammit Traxxxx.
seawolf17 Jun 15 2006 01:50 PM |
It's the moustache. It's hard to pitch to a guy when you're afraid his moustache is going to reach out and bitchslap you.
Centerfield Jun 15 2006 01:50 PM |
Trachsel gives up more hits to pitchers than anyone I have ever seen.
MFS62 Jun 15 2006 01:51 PM |
F'n Italian catchers.

MFS62 Jun 15 2006 01:53 PM |

The post as a whole though...the mental image of Willie brandishing a revolver with the face he makes whenever Chris Russo asks him a question, combined with the mental image of a poor, old, senile Ralph still only able to relate it to something from fifty years ago. Edgy gets post of the day.
Hillbilly Jun 15 2006 01:55 PM |
Thank good his out of that mess. I hear Pelfrey pitch very well again the other day.
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 01:56 PM |
Son. Let the kid at least try AAA before we bring him to the majors. We're 41-23.
Centerfield Jun 15 2006 01:56 PM |
Lidle settling in. Momentum has changed hands methinks.
Hillbilly Jun 15 2006 01:57 PM |

That's Dr. Son to you.
MFS62 Jun 15 2006 01:58 PM |

Yep. The entire post was funny. But I was only asked about the Leo line of Edgy's post. And Yancy's line just struck me as a tad funnier. Sorry Edgy. Please enter tomorrow's contest. Later

Hillbilly Jun 15 2006 01:59 PM |
Keep those extra base hits coming.
Centerfield Jun 15 2006 02:01 PM |

Yancy Street Gang Jun 15 2006 02:10 PM |
What? A rain delay?
Yancy Street Gang Jun 15 2006 02:12 PM |
Oops, according to MapQuest I'm 27 miles from Citizens Bank Park.
Centerfield Jun 15 2006 02:16 PM |
I think it rains everyday in Philadelphia.
Yancy Street Gang Jun 15 2006 02:20 PM |

Edgy DC Jun 15 2006 02:26 PM |

Traxxx with ~60 pitches thru 3: He'll have to be efficient and stingy to provide what would be only his 2nd Quality Start this year in 11 tries, and 4th in 17 games going back to last year.
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 02:52 PM |
Stevie at 71 pitches through 4. My prediction of 7 IP, 2-3 runs may not hold up.
Johnny Dickshot Jun 15 2006 02:53 PM |
Somebody is getting it done sooner than me. That was one of the 3 short innings he needed.

Leadoff double for Reyes. Cool. Let's bring him around. Something tells me 4 runs isn't going to get it done today.
Hillbilly Jun 15 2006 02:57 PM |
Reyes is on fire. Stretches that single into a two bagger. Endy bunts him to 3rd. Duck on the pond for the middle of the order!!!
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 02:57 PM |
That's a horrid place to bunt. Damn you Willie. Endy is on fire. We need more than one more run.
Yancy Street Gang Jun 15 2006 02:58 PM |
Oh, I have no problem with being thanked. I was curious as to how restrictive your firewall was.

TheOldMole Jun 15 2006 02:58 PM |

Q: How much is a Hollandsworth?
Johnny Dickshot Jun 15 2006 02:59 PM |
I sit corrected. That's 5 in 10 starts, and 3 in six last year.
Centerfield Jun 15 2006 02:59 PM |
On the radio they say Endy was bunting for a basehit, so that might have been on his own. I got no problem with that because, as discussed in the other thread, he's a damn good bunter for basehits.
Hillbilly Jun 15 2006 02:59 PM |
I guess you have no confidence in our starting pitcher.
TheOldMole Jun 15 2006 03:00 PM |

God damn it. He had 2 outs and bases empty. Now it's a one run game.

Fucking Pat Burrell.

Pat Burrell, future Met. Put that in your Predictions Archives.

seawolf17 Jun 15 2006 03:11 PM |
The guy just drives me fucking crazy.

Centerfield Jun 15 2006 03:11 PM |
Come on David. Let's get those runs back.
ABG Jun 15 2006 03:12 PM |
I'd gladly pay his market value salary not to have him hit against us.
metirish Jun 15 2006 03:12 PM |
Something like 72% of his career home runs are against the mets.
Centerfield Jun 15 2006 03:15 PM |
Mets going quietly so as to not wake up the baby.
Gwreck Jun 15 2006 03:15 PM |
All SC aside, I think it's 20%, which is still pretty riddiculous.
MFS62 Jun 15 2006 03:17 PM |
IIRC only about 20 players have done that. Anybody warming up in the Mets bullpen? Oliver went three in his last outing. I wonder who's the designated long man today? Heilman? Later
Hillbilly Jun 15 2006 03:19 PM |
Nothing going in the Mets pen.
Hillbilly Jun 15 2006 03:26 PM |
Strong 1-2-3 6th inning for trax. Likely his last inning of the day as he's due up 2nd.
Centerfield Jun 15 2006 03:29 PM |
Leadoff hit for Castro. Let's get 7 or 8 insurance runs here.
OlerudOwned Jun 15 2006 03:30 PM |
Why is SNY just a black screen for my today?
Hillbilly Jun 15 2006 03:30 PM |
Will trax hit?
Yancy Street Gang Jun 15 2006 03:31 PM |
Are you in Phillies territory?
OlerudOwned Jun 15 2006 03:32 PM |
No.
Hillbilly Jun 15 2006 03:34 PM |
Valentin with the PH sac bunt. Successful but your pitcher should be able to do that and help save the bench.
ScarletKnight41 Jun 15 2006 03:35 PM |
I lost SNY a couple of times also. Fortunately, I could switch to the Phillies station during those times.
Centerfield Jun 15 2006 03:36 PM |
Castro stranded.
Yancy Street Gang Jun 15 2006 03:41 PM |
Hopefully Aaron has his shit together this afternoon.
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 03:46 PM |
Who's their closer again?
Yancy Street Gang Jun 15 2006 03:47 PM |
He's gotten the first two outs.
Hillbilly Jun 15 2006 03:47 PM Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Jun 15 2006 03:48 PM |

Looks like it. A couple of full counts, but a nice 1-2-3 7th none the less.
Rotblatt Jun 15 2006 03:47 PM |
Not bad, Aaron. 17 pitches, 3 outs, 1 K.
Johnny Dickshot Jun 15 2006 03:50 PM |
That's encouraging.
MFS62 Jun 15 2006 03:51 PM |
Only six hits so far today. Maybe Lastings is the straw that stirs the drink.
Centerfield Jun 15 2006 03:52 PM |
Delgado to Phils: "Shift this"
Yancy Street Gang Jun 15 2006 03:54 PM |
I don't really like a plan that involves three pitchers protecting a one-run lead over three innings.
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 03:54 PM |
Believe it or not, not a lot of offense today. 3 of the runs came on one swing.
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 03:55 PM |
I'm all for punishing the wicked, and I don't think that Milledge is a .300 hitter yet, but maybe the best day to put in Marrero is not the same day that Woody and Castry get starts.
MFS62 Jun 15 2006 03:56 PM |
Second guess alert.
Edgy DC Jun 15 2006 03:56 PM |
Believe it or not, I started to worry. I wondered if I had enough class.
Edgy DC Jun 15 2006 03:57 PM |
Will Lastings replace Eli for defense?
Rotblatt Jun 15 2006 03:57 PM |
I agree, Yance.
Zvon Jun 15 2006 03:57 PM |
Glad for the rain delay so I can catch some of this game.
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 03:57 PM |
Hopefully Marrero will make me eat those words. They will taste good with ketchup.
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 03:58 PM |
Do you mean one-run deficit?
Yancy Street Gang Jun 15 2006 04:01 PM |
No...
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 04:02 PM |
Holy shit. I got back to my computer about 20 minutes ago. And since then I've been reading it as a 5-4 Philly lead.
Rotblatt Jun 15 2006 04:03 PM |
Huh. Sanchez is in, and apparently he hasn't pitched since June 9.
Yancy Street Gang Jun 15 2006 04:05 PM |
Sanchez hasn't pitched in six days? I didn't notice that.
Hillbilly Jun 15 2006 04:05 PM |
Yup.
Willets Point Jun 15 2006 04:05 PM |
Wow, it feels like he pitches in every game.
Rotblatt Jun 15 2006 04:06 PM |
Yeah, apparently. At least according to his Yahoo! page.
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 04:06 PM |
Good. He needed the rest.
Hillbilly Jun 15 2006 04:07 PM |
That's right - last Friday. He looks fresh too.
Yancy Street Gang Jun 15 2006 04:08 PM |
Can we let Sanchez pitch the 9th then?
Johnny Dickshot Jun 15 2006 04:09 PM |
Gotta like 1-2-3 on 3-4-5
Yancy Street Gang Jun 15 2006 04:09 PM |
Maybe not. He's due to bat in the 9th.
Hillbilly Jun 15 2006 04:09 PM |
Sure, but I bet Willie calls for Wagner.
Zvon Jun 15 2006 04:10 PM |
nope. Wags is warm.
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 04:10 PM |
Didn't he look awful trying to bunt earlier this year. Or am I misremembering?
Edgy DC Jun 15 2006 04:11 PM |
Julio has been successful in threee of his last four pinch appearances, four of seven, etc.
Yancy Street Gang Jun 15 2006 04:12 PM |
I wish I had more faith in Sandman.
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 04:15 PM |
Rowand has a .976 fielding percentage this year.
Edgy DC Jun 15 2006 04:16 PM |
I prefer to call him Sandanista.
Zvon Jun 15 2006 04:16 PM |
We Met fans have to have something to worry about. Franco with the nice pinch hit single. Works Geary good too.
Edgy DC Jun 15 2006 04:16 PM |
Julio has been successful in four of his last five pinch appearances, five of eight, etc.
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 04:17 PM |
Nine pitches before the single. He's my favorite Franco on the Mets this year.
Zvon Jun 15 2006 04:19 PM |
lol--and Franco steals second---thats got to be embarrassing for the Phils.
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 04:20 PM |
So what's the new record for oldest man to steal a base?
Elster88 Jun 15 2006 04:20 PM |
Why? Franco's got good wheels. He's already stolen one this year. How is it embarrassing?
Gwreck Jun 15 2006 04:20 PM |
Franco is leading the majors in pinch hits and PH batting average (players with more than 20 PH ABs).
